Upcoming URE trip questions

Hey everyone,
I'm planning on going to URE this weekend and need a few questions answered.
First of all, I'll be coming in a stock 2008 Wrangler Sahara. Will this handle most of the easy-moderate trails and go through mud pits such as Soup Bowl and Ledges? I've read already that most trails are stock-capable, I'm just requesting more info on what, if any, problems I may run into with a stock 08 Wrangler Sahara.
I've been looking at THIS map and it looks like I would have a wide variety of easy-moderate trails to choose from.
This would be my first time to URE and I'd love some info on the area. Any information you could give me on the area, the trails, etc would be great. I already know you must purchase a pass which can be bought at Eldorado Outpost.
I plan on coming down Friday night, camping that night, and leaving Saturday late afternoon.
Again, any info you could give a first time attendee would be great.
Thanks,
Tim

What kind of tires are you running?
I would avoid the mud regardless, makes a real mess, and if you get stuck, you have to have someone to pull you out, also means you have to get out and walk around in the mud. Once you open the door, if it hasn't already came in, mud will start filling your jeep.

you can take a stock jeep as far as your pucker will allow. and I would probably stay out of the soup bowl or ledges if I were you, unless they were empty of water.

x2, I saw a full size Chevy go deeper than the hood in the soup bowl two weekends ago.

soup bowl is a death trap for lots of rigs, look for threads on here about it. i took my
F150 with 4" lift and 33" TSL's in it not knowing how deep it was, it came over the hood and hit the windshield, i made it out but then it died and ruined my whole day, had to dead load it to get it home.
as far as everything else, with some good driving and good tires you can go as far as you want, minus Daniel. but everything else should be good.
hope you have have a great first trip man!

Soup bowl? Umm you want to AVOID IT!!!!!!!! you are stock and will drown lol
this is pic of soup bowl when its pretty much empty of water

I'm on 35's with 3in lift and the left wall of the deep side of the bowl is up to my roof, thats why in first pic above I only cut across what is usually LOW end of it, well my hood dropped under water

As far as the other trails as mentioned stay away from Daniel and the rocks on Kodak, you can do all the others providing its not raining, rain turns it very slick and without mud tires you will be sliding all over the place. I've been with many stock X's and Sahara's at Uwharrie, you may scrap up your skid plates, specially the gas tank skid, but thats why they are there lol.

If you dont go with a group from here or JKO make sure you tell who ever you join up with that it is your first time wheeling so they know and can help you out.

Man I would love to go wheeling with you, everytime I see that Jeep it's mostly under water and mud.Guess I have never really doused myself to the point that I am sick of it yet.You ever get over to Carlina Backwoods?

I have not been there yet. I've heard its good an muddy there usually. I need to get out there. I could use some passengers, they help keep the seats clean

Hey Tim do you still have the stock Goodyear SRA's on your jeep? Not sure what your plans are for your jeep but you can usually pick up a set of Rubi take offs for 500-700 and they would be a lot better in the mud and on the trails

Well I am not all that into riding, but I do have a set of mud tires that love throwing mud 1000 feet in the air and come back down and pelt me.Maybe we can plan a group ride out there, the guys I wheel with have been wanting to go.It definitely looks like a take your top and windows kind of place though.

They look good, but I would probably try to sell/trade his current wheels and tires and get some steelies and 31's to start it out, a nice m/t would do it. Save a little coin where possible. Should be meeting up with 08_Sahara tomorrow, if that happens chances are I will sponsor him. Will allow him to access some other areas of the forum and talk to people who otherwise may not see his questions in here.

As mentioned above... definitely stay away from the big mud holes. They're deeper than they look, and they smell awful! Good way to ruin your day. For trail suggestions, I like Falls Dam, Sawmill and Dickie Bell. They're easy enough that you can get by in a stock Jeep, but fun enough to keep you interested.

You might want to invest in a CB radio and a good tow strap before you go. And dont hit the trails alone, if you can avoid it. Go to the double parking lot and look for someone with a rig about the same size/build as yours. Ask if you can tag along. Its more fun riding with other people, and you have someone to rely on if you get stuck.

^^^X2 on the CB!
i love it and its real handy in bad situations cause there aint no cell signal out there hardly. and if your with a couple people, you can stay in contact with out yelling back and forth with your head hanging out.
not to mention all the fun crap talkin that goes on, least thats how my group does! lol

Welcome to the forum, You can't go to URE without stopping by and saying hello!LOL Stop by and hang a few minutes and hook up with somebody to follow, it's a good idea to make a few friends that will look after ya!

Already in the process of getting together with some friends. It sounds like I might tag along with Stephen, 95GranZj, for a little while. I'd also be bringing 2 other buddies, one of which has been to URE several times before.
But I'm always willing to hook up and wheel with more people.

Also, I hope Soupbowl isn't too deep this weekend. Here in Winston-Salem we havn't had a good rain for around 2 weeks now, not sure how the weather has been in Troy. Does anyone know the condition of Soubowl or Ledge?

A stock wrangler can handle any trail in URE other then Daniel. Start on wolfs den then falls dam and then see how you feel. If you want more keep going onto dickey bell. It's easier then it looks and there are easy ways around.

Then if you can go back for the "moderate" trails if you want more or do falls dam, wolfs den the other way if you want some more relaxing riding.

Oh and stay out of the soup bowl unless you see it's very shallow. It's much deeper then it looks some times and it's not a uniform depth either.

yeah man i wouldnt do it at all till you get some seat time and see others do it first. i learned the hard way. even if it is bone dry, its not the same level and you can get body damage from the bank sides in the deep end.
now you can play around on the shallow side if you wish, but dont go thru the ruts unless you plain out just dont care about your jeep and you wanna go balls to the wall.
i mentioned before how i flooded my engine, i also bashed in my drivers side door and ripped off my mirror. my mark is still in the side of the bank:flipoff2:

I'll probably play around in the shallow ends. I'd love to go through the deeper end but I just don't feel like messing my Jeep up.

Sounds like fun, can't wait to see some of you guys up there and go wheeling.

Met up with Tim (08_Sahara) yesterday, I will be sponsoring him. Didn't have computer access yesterday so I will take care of that now.

you'll grow to hate mud. i know, gettin the RPMs up an slinging some of the gooey stuff around is what gets everyone into the sport.

Definately the truth, I still enjoy the mud from time to time, but have gotten to the point where Id rather just run trails... He is running some streeties too, smack it, turn the wheel side to side and hope something bites lol.

First real mud I got into cost a friend of mine his transfer case and two of them a whole lot of $$$ to get extracted. I was a bit smarter and only played in the shallow stuff.

yeah youll def grow out of it, i was all gung hoe for mud at once too, still like a little of it, but i love a mix of everything. mostly challenging hill climbs and trails with obsticles and stuff.
my favorite is being in URE during/after a good rain! cant beat that. better have some damn good tires though!
