I took my gf to Uwharrie today and it was her first time. It was not a good first experience. We had a lot of mechanical problems on dutch john and had to limp out. I bottomed my rig on a water bar and twisted the transfer case so much that it wedged the shifter in the cab so that it would not disengage from 4Low. I also ripped off the passenger side mirror, got many new scratches and broke the radiator. I ended up putting 4 gallons of water in it just on dutch john.
Anyway, before all that happened I met 1bigassburben and I snapped a few pics of him at kodak.

Sounds like a rough day. Don't dispair. My buddy rolled his Jeep on a first date. They're married now!
 
Always wheel with a group just in case of difficulties plus things are more fun in a group. Fortunately there are usually plenty of friendly people willing to lend a hand at URE. Or at least that's my experience.
 
I have heard a lot of closer to stock/stock guys having issues with the water bars/dirt berms. I think maybe 9 different counts (from different people) of scraping on the water bars, damage, etc. I am starting to think they may have re-done some of them and made them a bit high this time. Because I don't remember ever hearing about so many people having issues with them. I didn't even have issues with them when I was stock years ago. :confused:
 
Yeah I think it also has to do with how much the trails have eroded and been graded lower over the years. They've raised the water berms higher to combat some of that erosion. If you look at the ground level around some of the trails you can plainly see how much lower the trail surface is now compared to several year ago. Some places it's 6 feet or more that the trail surface has been eroded and graded out. The trails look vastly different now compared to the first few times I went to URE. The trail rigs have changed quite a bit too. But I still love it.
 
Happens to a lot of people visiting URE. John Jr. just got a call last night and spent a few hours in the forest looking for a guy broke down on an ATV that no one could find. They finally found him. Best advise was given by sockjock. Buddy up with others. There is always someone wanting to wheel.
 
I'm guessing... but support the engine, unbolt the mount, put new one back in.

and of course lift the truck before you head back out to URE!

Yeah you are long enough that even taking the berms "sideways" you will have some issues. Not sure if that rig has any body lift or not / but that might would allow you to "flat belly" the rig a bit more?
 
is it really dry right now up at URE or is it a little wet? It looks like it might rain the next two days up there and I'm really hoping so, if it does i'm going to be going up for the weekend.
 
It looks like it is going to be pretty slick out there this weekend. I will be up there Saturday. And I am glad I am not the only one that has noticed the dirt berms/water bars have gotten higher/people have been having more trouble with them.

So in theory you could do a 3" motor mount lift / you broke one anyway? That / move up the tranny/tcase and custom a new tcase skid and mount and you have 3 or more inches of extra clearance!

I am looking at doing the same with my yota / also 3" body lift / just gotta get the money / person to do it for me!

Bad side of this of course is you will also increase the height on your center of gravity (less weight "down low") Tis a trade off, in my case I am not as worried about flopping.

Was at URE 23rd and 24th. Saturday was dry, Sunday it rained and was slick as snot. Had to catch 2nd gear and use a lot of skinny on the hill climb at Dutch John.

Yeah that would be a good upgrade, but I dont have the fab skills to make those brackets/mounts. Ill be lucky to get a replacement motor mount built this weekend.
