we paid $500

my roomates and I (2 roomates plus me) are about to move out and we all went in on this same/similar Samsung 42" HD DLP TV. We bought it about 2 years ago. They both don't want it so I offered to buy them both out so we didn't have to deal with selling it. Does the above listing portray a decent price?

being a dlp, i would think 500 is too high as in the next year or two you will need to buy a bulb that will run you 200 bucks. I say give no more than 300 total.

I wouldnt consider $500 outrageous.....a tad steep, not outrageous.

For a guesstimate, insurance companies depreciate any electronic device 30% year 1 and 10% each additional year. AT 2 years you probably paid $800?

if so that would put an insurance value right at $500...

you could find a thin flat hang-on the wall 42" plasma or lcd for $300-$500 on craigslist every now and then.... no way i'd offer $500 for one that is going to require a stand...

what it cost new is pretty meaningless.... what you should be more concerned with is how much someone would be willing to pay for it.

lol...what it cost new is very irrelevant...because the price has come WAYYYY down in the two years since you bought it.

you can hang a DLP on the wall. they are only about 3 inces wider...and 300 lbs lighter!!!!!!!!!

Oh, hey Bruiser, just noticed your edit on my original post; that wasn't my craigslist add, i was using that as a reference to the TV we own so that our knowledgeable community could better aid me in my buy out price.

42 is awful small now. in a world of 56-60-72 and now sony with a 108!!! 42 is going to be a hard sell.

i paid $1800 for a 50 inch a year ago, and my GF just bought a 60 (same model as me) $for 1000.

$300 man. My roommate just bought a 56" Samsung DLP that is a yr old for $1000. (which i think he shoulda paid $800 but oh well) Really the biggest thing to gauge price on is what the image resolution is at, thus 1080p or 1080i then down to 720 and so on. So if 1080i then $500 is good, $300 if it is 720p.

the picture of the tv hat was in the link wasn't a thin wall hangable dlp... it was probably 8-10" deep... thats why i was saying i wouldn't expect to get much for it since it couldn't even be hung on a wall....

as for tv sizes their is a huge demand for "smaller" tvs still. you size a tv accoridng to the room it's in. having a huge tv in a room that's too small is one of the biggest wastes of money, not to mention the picture looks like shit b/c you're sitting all up on the screen staring at every pixel... even at 1080i on a brand new elite or sony.

So if 1080i then $500 is good, $300 if it is 720p.

But 1080i came before 720p, i.e. I haven't seen a set that would do 720p but not 1080i..

If you meant 1080p, that's another story.. :)

But I'm with ya that $300 for a big screen of any kind is way too cheap unless it's some Wang Chung brand - hell, even my 47" 1080i RPTV set will go for a little more than $300!
