Looking at buying this bel-air compressor, 10 years old. Is the oil blown all over the top normal?

Yeah....No. We have quite a few very old compressors here. The one i run the waterjet machine on goes back to the 70s or even older. The one for powdercoat is just as old. Neither leak anything like that.

that's what I was thinking, $300 is a good price but I don't want something that is going to need service in a month.

Just told him no go, it's on craigslist in Charlotte, company that is moving. They want it gone.

For $300 I would absolutely buy it! Judging by the big capacitor box I'm guessing it's 5 or 7.5hp. Compressor pumpss are dead simple. It probably just needs a new gasket, or they may have just spilled oil when filling it and never cleaned it up. See if you can figure out where it's coming from. I'm pretty sure that's the exact same 2 stage compressor that is on mine. Ive had my IMC Bel Aire about 12-13 years and not had a single issue, and it had been run hard for decade(s) before that. They are tanks.

Also, parts diagram and pricing here if it's the same pump:
IMC HP50 pumps

its such a good deal to me Im temped buying it replacing my horizontal 80 gallon 2 stage....
