Hey,

With my CJ all but sold (delivery this saturday), I may actually have some money to spend on a toy. But I've got some bills to pay, etc so I'm on a budget. Plus this would be a first bike, whick I'm sure I will drop at some point.

I'm trying to get a handle on if a nicer older bike is a better deal or a newer cheaper bike. for instance, would you go with a...

'97 CBR600F3 - not sure on mileage yet, but for the sake of arguement something reasonable for a 10yr old bike. $2500.

or

02 YZF600R - $3500-4000 9k miles.

I guess basically I'm asking if newer bikes have new technology/parts that simply make even the low end bikes better than older higher end bikes? I'd rather only spend $2500, but if that's going to leave me lacking then i wonder if i should pony up a little more $$ for a newer bike??

cheers,
bigmac

I'd probably say the Yami, as I'm going to assume the CBR has ~20k miles on it.

ok, throw a '98 gsxr600 into the mix for ~$3500 with 6k miles. which do you prefer now?

i sat on a newer gsxr600 a few weeks ago and really liked the seat height. sits lower than the new r6s.

thanks,

Seriously, it depends on who is selling them. I bought a 96 FZR600 with +40k on the clock without any hesitation. If the motor has been well cared for and not beat into the ground a bike will easily turn 60-80k without any problems. Out of those I would definitely just follow my ass and which is more comfortable. Talk to the people selling them and try to drag out racing or hard riding like it is a good thing. If a person rides hard they will usually cave and talk about it.

I've had lots of GSXRs(750,1100's)...not comfortable at all on a long ride ,your wrist will hurt or at least mine did. If the CBR was clean that would be my buy, they are fast ,reliable and comfy on a long ride.

do you not have a license? ride them all and see which one you like. No one else has to ride your bike except you. I bought a vulcan awhile back that was the ugliest piece of crap out there but liked how it rode and handled
