The CFJSC was invited to come help work on the trails before opening day. We adopted the Dickey Bell trail a couple years ago.. and have at the very least picked up thousands of beer cans. We're trying to work as close as possible with the Forest Service to help keep trail maintenance up- we don't want a repeat of Tellico!

As you know it has been raining for like a week now, and luckily it cleared up during the day Saturday, but into the afternoon the wind blew in and the rain came down very hard. So yes, it IS as wet as everyone thinks it is. Should make for an interesting opening day.

We helped put up a couple guardrails at the top of Dickey Bell, as they had been getting lots of traffic off-trail, and hopefully this will help deter people. After that we rode the trail, picked up trash, and did our best to drain the mud holes. Our efforts on that were at best temporary, but we will be going back much more throughout the year.

Anyway- back to reason you came here.. PICS:

Its great to see the other clubs working on the trails they adopted.

We (CNC4x4) made some changes to slab pile a couple weeks ago. New culvert, and blocking off off-trail lines were the main things. We walked the trail with the rangers, in early January, and it was amazing how much trash was on our trail despite the fact that we cleaned the trail right before it closed last year.

John, I know what you mean, my wife and I picked up all the trash the last afternoon the trails were open. I could not understand how all the trash got on the trails with them being closed. The Forest Service personel have an idea on how it is getting there but that was all they would say. I guess they are working on it. I found some tracks and have an idea my self, but..........

I want to thank CNC 4X4 for all the work you do to help, it is the only way we can keep the trails open.

CORE went up and did some maintenance on Dutch John in March also. We adopted Dutch John some years back and this year we put up steel guardrail to close off a couple of bypasses. I don't think this stuff will come down like the split rail...

hey i saw you said you drained the mud puddles, what is the point of that? just curious

Per the Forest Service, Every time you drive through a puddle you splash out silt and water which allows more silt to be made. The puddle just gets bigger and bigger making more silt to be carried down to the streams. Silt is the problem and a main issue used against Tellco OHV trails. This is how I understand it of course I do have CRS these days. :D

Just curious, does the Forest Service provide the materials and equipment or is that donated by your club? Either way I think what you guys are doing on your spare time for everyone else to be able to enjoy URE is commendable.

Thank You!

I was wondering, I'm not a member of any club, hope to find one to join sometime. I only live 18 miles from URE & enjoy the trails about every month of the season (if I can work it in, my wife would rather us ride our motorcycle than wheel). My question is I would like to help on a work day - Do you have to be a member of a club to help work / repair the trails? We (my brothers & friends) do clean up whenever we see a campsite or a spot someone left a bunch of trash.

They supplied the materials, we supplied all the labor and tools. We rented a mini excavator and a club member had a tractor with a blade box and scoop.

Next time your driving over the water bars, think of driving a mini excavator over them.

Thanks guys. I very much appreciate the hard work. Uwharrie is no Tellico, but it's close by and I still have fun every time I'm there (minus the dust of course).

you wont have to worry about the dust right now!
