uwharrie thanksgiving weekend

Looks like Erik will be attending, I got to spend the better part of my morning ripping that mess apart so that he'd have time to get the Jeep prepared. I've got 2 more Jeeps meeting up on Friday at the outpost at about 9:30-10 AM. After a lot of stressing I'm glad to see that there will be a few friendly faces out there. Erik and I have done a little bit of wheeling with the J'ville Jeepers before, and you guys seemed like a pretty good group of guys. I hope to see you out there and I will definitely be saying hello.
Chad

Kodak got me

I saw you pull in today. I had the White XJ on 38's. I was changing tires when you came in. Mine broke an hour later though so I was done.

Kodak got me good. I will have pics up as soon as my buddy gets them to me. My story goes like this, 30 minutes into the first trail Kodak, claimed my radius arm. As I was going up it, it was climbing and flexing great. As I was going up it kept sliding to the side. When I started down it flexed like mad and the spring popped out. I slid it back in and backed on down. Tried again and couldn't make it. I backed up to try a different area and Dom stopped me. Well aparantly while backing down there was so much flxed it caused to much bind and the radius arm broke in half. That left me with one. So I strapped it down and proceeded to limp off the trail. While on my way to the bottom the brakes were too much for the single arm and it broke and rolled foward rotating the pinion 45" up. the spring then went flying out. So now I have 2 broken arms and the spring popped out and the body (fender well) is sitting on the tire. Created a lot of stress. We usde a high lift on the side of the Jeep and got it high enough to get the spring in. I strpped the other arm to the axle and had straps holding the springs to the rear to keep them from flying out forward. As I tightened the strap on the radius arm it rotated the pinion back down. We used a trac bar that had a heim on it and attached it to the Jeep and then strapped it to the Radius arm. We now had it back in place but no strength and the first time I would have used the brakes it would have rolled forward and broke the trac bar and steering. So we clamped the front brake lines and had Erik in his Sick YJ behind me strapped to be my brakes. So he kept me from going fast and I let it in low to pull me as needed. Some how we got down to the road. Changed my tires loaded it back on the trailer and rode with Eirk in his YJ. I am going to build new arms and ensure I make one of them wristed. For the guys that Helped thanks a million for your time and patience to get me down. Special thanks to Erik for letting me and my girls ride with him for the rest of the day. Met some of the NC 4x4 guys while out there as well. It sucked but was fun and I got a new project to build now. I already have a plan to make it stronger and wristed to allow better flex. I will also add my retainers for the springs and limiting straps. I didn't think it would flex that much.

OH yeah Broncomania has a super sick ride. Thanks for the tips today. I can't wait to fix mine and wheel it again.
thanks bro. good to meet you guys . good luck with your repairs. we will get back out there again soon.

The trac bar that Erik had was used for support. I think this really helped keep the pinion from rotating back up. plus I cut the brake line pressure off to the front.

Steve ya flopped the wifes rig, I see you had fun I wish I was there.

Doug... we heard about the carnage (& the slow go off the trail), but your rig looked like a train wreck in person! I think you guys were chopping wood(?) when we came off the trail andwe stopped for a peek... excellent recovery techniques for sure.

We didn't suffer anything real bad... Tater's BBD was running like @$$ (normal) and I inverted the front shackles on a bad line at Kodak (thanks to the Rover team for the breaker bar!)... another good weekend to be in the woods!

Any damage shots? Oh and it looks like either Kodak or Daniel... how'd it happen?

It was on Kodak. At the top of the first ledge, just about had it cleared until it slipped to the right and flopped.
As for damage, two dented up doors, broken handles and the drip edge above the driver door needs bent back up.
