ive got a 99 4Runner its got some upgrades but no lifts or anything its got terrible tires now but soon ill have bfg all terrains. Im new to offroading i just look for random trails around roads but ive seen some stuff about trails at uwharrie.
It looks fun I wanted to know from some expirenced people if my 4 Runner 4x4 could handle it, i know there are some extreme trails and what i should expect if i do go over there. Thanks

I have taken my Stock XJ through most of mild trails with no problem. there are bypasses on most hard sections. I would not go by yourself the first time.

I got my stock Yukon through every trail. I needed some rock stacking and a little strap action on Daniel and some creative spotting on a couple sections on RML, but other than that, I had no problems. You shouldn't have any issues.

x2 on not going alone the first time.

You'll be happier if you stay off of Daniel and Rocky Mountain Loop until you get a little trail time under your belt. I'm not saying those trails are impassable by any means, but I have seen a lot of newbs almost crap on themselves the first time they see that ledge on Daniel. With no lift and sketchy tires that ledge will be tough, and there's no bypass. You can definitely get strapped over it, but it can be tough on the skid plates and other stuff under the vehicle.

make sure you have TOW HOOKS front & rear

Yeah, go do the moderate and easy trails and you'll have a good trail ride. X4583320000 on going with a small group.

If it has rained in Troy recently the easy/moderate trails are challenging. There's a lot of NC red clay and it's a bit slick when wet...

You will be fine. I have done every trail there including Daniel, in a stock Samurai on 215 street tires.

Have someone with you, I went for the first time last summer and did every trail. I only had a 3inch bodie lift and 32's and had fun. Its a good idea to have a cb radio in your rig. I had no cell service on most of the trails. Make sure to get a map and have fun..:driver:

Can't stress this point enough. We have no problem helping rookie wheelers when in a bind, but it's tough to lend a hand over an obstacle when there's no place to hook a tow strap or winch.

Just wrap the strap around the axle :flipoff2:

I heard someone say that they were going to film a new
[HoverRound] commercial out at Uwharrie. I dont know, I just heard it.lol

related thread Jack! Please - if you are a noob and are attaching tow hooks or anything else to your rig. Please, please, please use graded hardware appropriate for your application.

I pulled the tow hooks off a parts jeep once, both the bolts (1/2" GR5) on both tow hooks were bent -- more like offset about 1/8" right where the hook and frame met. They were *so* close to shearing and maybe hurting somebody.

Chuckman speaks from experience. I know ive had you(chuckman) tell your story to a lot of my friends, not to put you on the spot , but to educate people from a first person point of view. Chuckman took a hook to the head(temple) from a hard yank on a strap that was hooked to "falty anchor point" Hook recoiled hard, came through window and struck him in the noggin'. He's lucky to be alive, so attach your hooks properly! Dylan

Like that's ideal...You ever see an axle get ripped off the suspension before doing that? I've only done that when there's absolutely no other option.
