Uwharrie Tree Clearing

Does anyone know what's going on with all the clearing near the start of the forest road or up the way to the gun range?

Seems quite remarkable.
 
I know it's not for new trails or an OHV playground because that would make sense.
 
I think that is private property but I haven't looked at the map in awhile.
