I recently moved to N.C. from Florida, and have noticed wheeling up here is a whole lot different than what i have gotten used to. The rules for vehicles are different also. I'm thinking of starting another project and want to do a small block V-8 conversion on a smaller 4x4 truck (s-10,cj,ect.). How do you get thru inspection doing that, or do you? In fla we didn't have any inspection, so it was never an issue. What is the age limit or restriction on this. I want to keep it street legal yet be able to play also. Thanks T-Bone71

The 350 conversion is very popular in S-10's. I'm not sure about the inspections. I guess get one that is '96 or older (10 yrs or older are exempt from emissions, right guys?) and use it for the carrier for a V8.

engine must be newer or same age as vehicle it's being swapped into, and have all emissions equipment that the engine originally had. However, unless it's a 96 or newer truck, i wouldn't worry about it, as most service stations rarely ever lift the hood during an inspection. 96 and newer trucks are hooked to a computer, and the machine reads the cars info, sends it to raleigh, and the emissions test is done by reading faults off of the pcm/ecu.
