what are the laws in north carolina about doing an engine swap. i now i can stroke my inline 6 and be fine but i also have a 5.2L v8 from a grand cherokee sitting at the house that needs to go into something. i want to say it is from a 97 year model grand and my tj is a 2002 year model.

technically the motor has to be from the same year or newer\

But nc is pretty slack about their emissions laws compared to other state.

So if you made it pretty clean looking and had cats and no check engine light it would pass

There was a good episode on 4x4 extreme a while back about a Hemi swap. One stipulation was that the donor motor had to be out of a vehicle at least as new as the vehicle it is going into.

The question is, let's say the 5.2 was available in 2002. If so, how could they really prove it wasn't an '02 motor, especially since you'll be getting the PCM re-flashed, and you'd have a bill of sale for the engine from "Hirollin fab" for one 2002 grand cherokee engine.. ;)

didnt they stop using the engines back in 1998 or did they keep using them in dodge trucks. cus 2002 would have been a cut off your for the rams, i think

pretty much my understanding is more that it has to have all the emissions equipment from the same yr or newer...dont think the engine matters as opposed to the emissions

good point. what sucks is that i have everything that came on that engine. there is about 1' of exhaust pipe after the y pipe, so it is pretty complete minus the radiator. what transmission would work good behind this. will the 3 speed autos that came in the tjs be strong enough or would it need a tranny out of the same v8 grand or ram 1500?

the bill of sale would actually be from spoon fed fab :flipoff2:
thats going to be the name of my shop if i ever open up one

If you are looking for an auto, id go with one from a dodge truck... the GC tranny is junk...

You can't use a 6cyl trans with the v8, won't bolt up

You need the transmission computer, if you get a 46re out of a ram your going to need the ram computer because it controlls engine and transmission

It might be cheaper and less headache to go stick shift
