VA CCW Reciprocity

NC4x4,

I live in VA now, moved from NC about a year ago, and was scanning through the VA reciprocity of the CCW with others states. I knew there was about to be a giant loss of reciprocity because of Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe but last I remember hearing is there was a compromise and it wasn’t going to be harsh.

I check this morning and effective July 1, 2016 there is only reciprocity in Florida, Michigan, Maine, Colorado, and Pennsylvania. Facepalm….

I want to have the ability to carry concealed in states that are close to where I live (WV, NC, SC, KY, GA) and am looking for options. I could get an out of state CCW in NC but if I am going through all of the trouble plus the fees and training again should I just get the Utah CCW which has more coverage than NCs CCW?

The training I completed for VA was the NRA Pistol Class. It won’t transfer to NC or Utah so I have to retake training again anyways. Anyone else look into the Utah CCW?

The page you linked in your first post shows that all the states you list do have reciprocity with Virginia, with the exception of Georgia. Pennsylvania requires the permit to be Virginia Resident, No Virginia non-resident permits are recognized. I don't know if there is an agreement in the works for Georgia or not...

@zuke Holy cow I can't believe I missed that detail. I thought the list with the exception next to the state were the only states. Man now my nerves are settled. They should have just posted a map of the states and dumb me would have understood that quicker!

@jeepguy242 I have always considered that as well. If I am back in town for a saturday class I might just have to sign up for one.

Thanks guys for the guidance!

A Map would be nice! They've been screwing around with the statute so much lately it's hard to keep track, but since I regularly carry into PA, WV, and NC, I've been trying to keep up with the rule du jour!
