VA. temp. tag question...

I have searched the threads here and really haven't found an answer. I am getting a vehicle from VA this sat. and I am a little confused on if I can run my current tags or if I have to get a 3 day temp. tag from VA DMV. I will have insurance on the vehicle before sat. and will have canceled the insurance on my current vehicle.
So, my question is, Will I have to get a 3 day temp. tag from VA or can I drive the vehicle on my current tag until I get it registered in NC( getting it registered in NC on Tues.)?A 3 day temp. tag in VA is only $5 but I don't really want to have to go to the DMV in VA on Sat. and then again in NC on Tues.:confused:
 
It think I'd just run the tag off the previous vehicle. In NC you've got (I think) 30 days to switch the tag over after buying a new vehicle. I doubt you could even go to the VA DMV on a sat. I'd think they'd be closed. Hence the grace period.
