Vacum Canister Problem

This is hard to explain because i'm ignorant of proper terms.

So I finally finished doing a SOA on a '95 YJ, I just swapped out some axles from a '90 YJ because my friend has gone to full widths and all of the angles and extra work was done on them and i'm lazy, plus they came from a 4 cyc so they had 4:10's. The only problem left is that the vacum canister from a '90 YJ is apparentally different from that of a '95. The little metal nub thingys (proper terms) that are on the axle of the '90 model are off-set, one is about 1/2 - 3/4 inches below the top of the canister, and the other is on the top of the canister itself.

The '95 apparentally was changed so that both of the nubby thingys are on top of the canister at an even level. Therefore the rubber plug-ie thingys are made for the even level'd nubs and won't fit onto the new axles. A friend told me to just cut the plug and make it fit, but i'm not sure that'll work seeing that if I cut to much to either side i'll more then likely lose suction.

Anyone have any suggestions, comments, desire to call me a dumb college kid or know where I can get a replacement plug thing? And is it possible to switch canisters? I have 4 complete spare axles so i'm hoping one of them might fit.

If the "thingys" you are referring to are the rubber lines with plastic caps coming off your center section (hoghead, pumpkin) they are just vents.

Assuming this is what we are talking about, you could either:
1) Buy longer rubber hose at parts store and re run
2) Buy vent ends (probably have to go to dealer, but they are hella cheap)that slip into hose and just vent high
