Vehicle enclosures...guide me oh wise ones

By law, you will need to hire an electrician to wire it.

Not true. I wired my own building. 200A panel, 200A meter base, 3 rec circuits, 1 light circuit, 240v welder circuit, 240v air compressor circuit. All run in conduit. Inspector looked at my % fill calculations and counted wires in each box. Said it looked as good or better than licensed electricians.

Wouldn't matter for me anyway...as much as I like to think I can do anything...I KNOW I can't do electrical work. My electrical work resembles something that would look like a special ed coked out chimpanzee being brought down with half a xanax would do. So I'd definitely hire that out.

Well, you got me (kinda). It does vary from county to county. Here in Meck it is required. I would think Cabarrus/Rowan would be similar. Could be wrong.

In Meck a homeowner CAN pull an electrical permit to wire there own residence but it has to be inspected to same standards as electrician. Homeowner can NOT have assistance unless assistance in licensed electrician, in which case he as to be listed on the permit.

Now getting it ever passed...

Same is true in Gaston. I paid someone to wire my house, they passed inspection on the first shot, but had to come back out twice to get a few dead switches and lights working.

I wired my building myself, passed on the second go round, but all I had to add was a light over the man doors, which seems really stupid if I don't want a light there, and the switch is inside...

I'm thinking this is actually everywhere in NC. Homeowner can pull all permits without being licensed, however your work is always held to the same standard.

From what I understand, a local government (town, County, etc.) is free to adopt additional codes, however they cannot be more stringent than those set by NCDOI.

Most inspection departments will want engineered drawings for metal buildings. The code doesn't really address metal support structures so most departments defer to engineered plans. Some of the sketchier companies will charge you extra for these.

A bit of advice:

If you hire someone to put up a metal building, and they ask for a draw after the primary structure is up, don't pay them more than 1/4 or so of the agreed total labor price. It's fairly common for a metal building erector to ask for half of the erection fee after the frame is up, then walk off the job. Most of the time and work is in the boxing and siding.

I looked into several options and ended up using Carolina Carports for my 24x26. I had a very good experience with them then had an electrician that does weekend work do the wiring. I'd love to show it to you when you pick up the push bar!:)
