Vehicle sale - Seller takes higher offer after deal made

3 hours from pickup, money in hand. But hey, we all have our own individual system of values. If i didnt like it then it would be because the seller was dishonest in their ad. If Shawn could bring back the ad that was deleted yesterday then we would know that me not buying for agreed amount would have been their dishonesty in vehicle description.

My post was to get opinions Ron and we have yours.
How about you get off your high horse and stop questioning people's values. No one here screwed you over. If you feel that wronged about it, take your contract (your PM's and texts) and sue the guy. Good luck with that, but you don't get to ask the opinion of others and then be condescending towards them when their opinions don't align with yours.

You don't know what is going on in people's lives. That extra $1000, or $100, or $50, could make the difference in putting food on the table for their family or paying the power bill, or both. You're damn right I'm selling to the highest payer if I'm in that situation, and I'm not going to get my panties in a wad if the next guy is. When it comes to providing for one's family, and you're to the point of selling your property to do so, the exact moral, honorable, reputable, and principled thing to do is get all the money you can for it.

You are absoutely right Ron. That is a perspective that eluded me and i did not know his or anyones situation. My apologies.

Sorry,
Not jeff b but jeff f (franklin) .... he knows me...and seems to be taking a shot at me across the internet not warranted.

From this thread I'm sure learning who to deal w/ and who not to deal with.

I don't care if it's $10 or $10k dollars if you are stupid enough to make a deal w/ a buyer on the phone then you obligated yourself as the seller to wait on him to come to you w/ in a specified time. Once that time is up you can sell to whom ever you want at whatever price. If the first buyer doesn't show and the second one doesn't want it after the fact he didn't want it to begin with.

I think isn't right to start a bidding war after a deal is agreed on but to each his own.

I'm a firm believer when it comes to me being the seller the first w/ the cash is the winner if I have two people wanting an item but I generally won't haggle to much over the phone or come to a specific price til one shows up w/ cash.

Ron that was an apology. Shouldnt have said it.

It's really as simple as--you find a good deal you jump on it. I would never expect a random person from the internet to hold something for me without at least A, being en-route or B, giving a deposit. This is the real world.

A deal is a deal is a deal. Written or oral it doesn't matter.
That sounds really good until you've set at a meeting location for hours waiting on someone to show up, only to never hear from them again, over and over and over. And I'm not talking about the same person, I'm talking lots of people from lots of places. Generally NC4x4 people are significantly better, and Craigslist people are 78% unreliable. I'm of the opinion that it's not sold till its paid for, but if we have an agreed upon price, I'm going to do my best to honor it. I'm also of the opinion that the price isn't agreed upon until the buyer has seen the item in person and purchased or put down a deposit. If I'm selling a truck for $10k, and you till me you'll give me $9k, I'll say ok, but I'll also assume that you are going to come look at the truck and try to beat me down on price some more. Had it happen too many times to believe people anymore.

And on internet deals, en-route means little or nothing. Craigslist has it's own Bermuda Triangle into which thousands of people disappear every year.

You've got to be live tweeting pics of road signs while holding up $100 dollar bills in your off hand or you're lying about being on the way. [/sarcasm]

Seriously, next time someone is feeling wronged about an internet sale (and I've been there before too) read this thread. You should quickly realize that life isn't so bad, and happily go find someone else's stuff to buy.

If someone is interested in something enough to buy it they are interested enough to come get it. If someone is coming to see something I have I usually set up a time I know I won't be to far from home and go on about my day and tell them to call me when they get close.

No situation is perfect. I've been screwed a bunch too.

I disagree with most. I'd like to think that my word is good and expect the same. I personally would have considered it pending for a serious buyer, at least on here.

I won't consider anything on craigslist the same way. I used to but now it is whoever comes first with cash. I don't work deals over the phone there.

Is it a double standard? Possibly, but for some reason, I expect better out of this community. I say- let us know who it was.

Wish you woulda told me that you found another d70 way back when lol

my self,if we make a deal weather on the phone or shake hands it is the same to me and i am going to do what i said i would no matter what it cost me. how ever if it was done to me i look at it as i have not been screwed out of anything so no big deal and i'm not going to think bad of the seller. a thousand bucks aint chump change

Sold my F-250 a couple years ago (99' 7.3 Ext cab, 6spd, 4x4, 109K miles, so a pretty sought after truck), my cousin's husband wanted it bad for his business (they live in Canada), I had it for sale on here and Craigslist, I kept it listed until he said for sure he wanted it (then shortly after he sent me a downpayment). Before he sent me a downpayment I had a guy (I think off nc4x4) call me and was dying to buy the truck, offered me $1,000 more than I had agreed to with my cousin's husband. If it would not have been someone I know personally that had agreed to buy my truck I would have sold to the guy offering $1,000 more in a heartbeat.

Whether it be NC4x4 or craigslist I have had MANY times where people say they are going to buy something, then I never hear from them again. Heck, I have a receiver hitch for sale I have had 2-3 people on nc4x4 say they are going to come get it then they never call, that is why I don't negotiate on prices when I am only asking ~$50, because if someone feels they can only buy it if you sell it for $40 instead of $50, they aren't going to show up anyways, because it is obviously not very important to them.

You should have offered him more money to begin with if you wanted it that bad.

Not selling out. I have known Ron for years and consider him a friend. i singled him out and that wasnt cool. He made me think for a second about how much I am blessed and others may be in different, desperate situations.

I will continue to treat members here differently than the outside world. If that leads to BS, so be it.
As for the seller, you will remain anoymous.

If you want something put cash in hand….if you want it badly, take off work, leave to go get it immediately, take cash..etc…good deals don't wait for someone to get their ducks in a row. I buy stuff cheap all the time because I'm willing and able to buy it the moment I see it,without hesitation, that's how you get the good deals. It may not be the fair way of doing things, but life ain't fair. I drove to Asheville in the middle of the night to buy a motorcycle that I sold 2 days later for twice what I payed for it. If you want it , go get it.
Also, from the sellers point of view I've had hundreds of people assure me they were coming to buy something and never show…cash is king.
