Ok..just gotta get this off my chest and see if anyone else feels this way too.

It has to do with banking.

If I install carpet for you, and you pay me with a check, why does most banks want to charge me 5 to 7 dollars just to cash the fawking check?

I know they say it's because I dont hold an account there...SO WHAT? The customer that wrote me the check has an account there. It's their money, and they want me to have the total amount that the check is written for.WTF?

If the greedy bank wants to charge me 5 dollars to cash the customers check, should I not go back to the customer and charge them 5 dollars extra? The Bank says ''YES''.

That just shows how much the care, huh?

I wish I could go back and charge the customer that extra 5 to 7 bucks, and then by doing this, that customer would become outraged and pull their accounts. After all, this would essentially be like the check writer being charged 5 bucks every time they write a check...right?

BBand T charges 5 while Bank of America cherges 7 dollars.

Last time I checked(no pun intended) Newbridge and Bank of Carolinas does not have this fee.
If the check is good, I get the money.

Sure I can take it to my bank and cash it or deposit it..no problems. But sometimes I just want to cash that sucker asap, so I can buy a damn burger or something.

This seems like LEGAL EXTORTION to me. I'm sick of it.

Please note...if I do work for you and you write me a check from one of these banks...Please add an additional 5 to 7 fee for the convenience of you banking where you do.

Call those bastids and tell them that you wrote me the damn check and to give me the money.

This may end up in the garage soon ...lol

i pay in $$$

and i agree. i the freakin thing says the banks name on it...they are promising to back the agreement with their "full faith and credit".

its like you said..if the customer agrees to pay $10.00 then that check is a contract in which the bank has promissed to see carried out.

If that gets you riled up, don't ever try to cash a Cashiers check. I've seen Suntrust refuse to cash one for my dad, and he was, umm, well, we'll just say not happy.

Dylan,
re: the fee, I agree it is very tsupid and the onl yreasons I can think of are (1) to discourage people from actually bothering their tellers w/ cashing checks 9since this costs them time=money), and/or (2) to encourage people (e.g., you) to just go ahead and have an account w/ them so you won't have the fee.
I agree that if the check is from THEIR bank, they should honor it. FYI NC SECU won't charge either.

But re: asking customers for the $$ I assume you are joking b/c most folks owuld just laugh at you. The problem is we (as the customer) know that you can indeed cash a check w/o costing you a dime - you just have to use you own bank. As you said yourself you're only using the other bank as a matter of convenience to YOU, I'm not gonna give you $5 more bc you're too lazy to visit your own bank.

I hate apple... but... get an IPhone, they have a cool app now you can "deposit" a check by taking a picture of it, no need to visit the bank.

just deposit it into your checking account and don't worry about the fee.

Or

sign up for an account at each bank :D most of them are free anyway...

or

make them pay in cash :)

yep...thats the legal extortion tactics i was talking about.

I agree, it does sound obsurd..at first, until I realize that I dont deserve 5 dollars extra for just doing my job...why should the bank get 5 extra for doing their job? My customer should not have to pay any extra either, My point is..the banks are counting on the fact that ''I'' wont charge my customers extra.
I just think it sucks. A fleecing for sure!

thats not the point here. I could do all of the above...but why cant I just simply cash a check at the bank whos name appears on the check?

BB&t check...makes sense to be able to cash it at the very same bb&t that the customer opened the account at. Dont it?

I see your point. But, once you have the check, it doesn't matter where the $$$ is coming from. The bank wants you to be the customer (i.e., have an account). since you don't have an account, then ya gotta pay. Its pretty typical and common practice in the industry. Wal Mart even does it and charges for payroll checks, govt. checks, etc.

Thats the legal extortion part. And they get away with it and make a lot of free money doing it.

And sometimes it does make a difference where the money comes from.
My bank is in Mocksville and I am in Greensboro, the customer wrote a Wachovia check. Lets say that I am running low on cash and want to eat lunch. I am not going to use a credit card to finance a cheesburger, so I decide to cash the check at a nearby Wachovia...only to find out it will cost me 5 bucks to get my money.

Not right I tell ya.

I've always argued with them and made a scene about it being bull $hit and they've always cashed the checks free of charge.

Ditto!

"Look right here girlfriend! Right before MY name written on a check from YOUR bank, it says 'Pay to the Order of:'... NOW will be good!"

At least they didn't tell you to come back with a parent! :flipoff2:

you want the easy answer? get a debit card. :flipoff2:

Do what I do....don't take checks. When the customer asks why, explain to them about their bank being difficult to deal with. Everyone I've taken the time to explain how it works, understands and pays in cash.

Next time you go get your cheeseburger, go ahead and buy some giftcards to the restaurant. Keep them in your wallet, and BAM! Now there is no need to cash a check at an enemy bank for lunch money.

the first part....Excatly!
The parent part.........very funny:flipoff2:
:lol::lol:
you must be able to see over the counter to cash checks for free !!
:fuck-you:I go to the handicap counter, it's lower

I have one...thats not the point though.
Now that's damn funny:lol:
Shut up poopy pants.:flipoff2:

My wife works at ''our'' bank. Sometimes I need to NOT cash a check at ''our'' bank.
Get it?
Being a short guy is not really the problem...being short 5 to 7 bucks is.

All this crying is bring a tear to my eye.

I liked the short joke, LOL

LAUGH ME FAWKIN ASS OFF!!!!!

This fee thing must be a newish policy. A previous employer of mine banked with BB&T and I'd cash my check with them for no fee.

But agreed, That check is a PROMISSORY NOTE. So long as there are funds to back it up, the payer and the bank should PAY UP!

hahaha....just exactly what are you being paid to do?
What I'm saying is...sometimes The wifey dont need to know how much the check is for, so I need to cash it somewhere else. Like ''if'' I wanna buy her a surprise gift or something. She dont need to know that I cashed a check...or sqirreling jeep fund money.
