Verizon trying to put the screws to us ?

Well... for one thing, Verizon Wireless isn't in the FIOS business. That's Verizon Communications, a related, but separate entity. This sounds more like some FUD as a result of Verizon Communications' dealings with their unionized employees.

Also, you'll never, ever get FIOS out where you live. I can't get it where I live. We're in an AT&T-only zone. That has nothing to do with your link, and everything to do with old (read: Ma Bell-era) common-carrier regulations.

I do have AT&T fiber at the end of my driveway, though.

We have a DSLAM at the end of our road, fed by fiber. I have a couple of 1000' spools of fiber in my shop. Hmmmmm, how much  do I have to give the phone tech to open the box and turn his back?

Actually, TW laid fiber out here a few years ago, it ends 2 blocks from me, but feeds the newest part of the subdivision. To my knowledge, none of it actually goes to a residence though, just feeds

The link was sent by my dad, I don't follow any of this stuff, and I'm somewhat skeptical of it's origin, thought I'd toss it out, see if anyone knew anything.

I'm not saying you won't get fiber. I'm saying you'll never get *Verizon* fiber, because you're in an AT&T district.

Shawn is correct... I work for a manufacter in FTTx market, and VZ is one of our largest customers... That link didnt make much sense as Shawn stated. With that being said, for what most people pay for cable triple play, you could have far better FiOS service from Verizon Communications.

Currently, as far as getting fiber to your house:
- CenturyLink is the only provider in this area (other then ITCOs or Munis) that is doing Fiber To The Home, but it is mainly in new developments in Eastern NC
- AT&T does Fiber to the Curb & IPTV with UVerse, and then coax or twisted pair to the house.
- Cable companies run fiber backbone, or Fiber to the Node, and coax to the house with RF Video compression.
