Background: I live in the boondocks. I will never get cable. I got wildblue (satelite) and it works good for me. My wife could not use wildblue when she telecommuted because the latency wouldn't allow what she does to work. She got a Verizon broadband card and it works good for her. I am considering dropping wildblue and going with a Verizon Broadband card too but I still have a desktop. I don't game and I don't watch porn and don't even download music yet. I'm wondering if I could get by, keeping my use under 5gb, with wireless broadband. Anybody else use a broadband wireless card on their home computer?

Not the same, but I went from TW 7MB (ha ha) more like 2-3.... To DSL 3.0MB and guess what ? It's the same :) Might check out your phone company to see if DSL has made it out your way.. They keep upgrading all the time...

What else is the Internet for???

On a more serious note - do oyu have Verizon cell service?
They've recently changed their pricing structures for data plans and "tethering". If you have/get a cell phone w/ full data access, you can get unlimited access (no Mb limit) AND tethering for the phone for the same price as the broadband card you mention.
It is the same speed, same technology etc - just using the phone as the link.
just a thought - for the same $$ you could "take the intenet" anywhere with you, just need to be sure the phone can handle/deliver the bandwidth.

Is her laptop/verizon modem around often enough (as in she's home about the same hours/days as you? You can get a router that the cellular modem will plug into....then use both off computers off the same connection.

I'm guessing that Allhell (which I have) works the same as Verizon in one regard....if you do it with a tethered phone...you can't use the phone when you are online....back to the old days of dialup.

From what I understand - which could be wrong - that depends on the s/w of the phone.
just liek some will let you browse through menus, lookup contacts etc while talking - whiel some won't.
but verizon is very bad about resitricting/removing features native to phones so that wouldn't surprise me
