i have a bronco with a painless wier harness mass air conversion runs great on flat bumpie or jumping though ditches but when i climb hills or point it up in starts missing loses power and pours black smoke like my diesal it has new fuel tank and pump and a full tank of gas at that any ideas on this try to go to boone this weekend for toy run at kalenenta sorry cant spell well gaston county schools lol.

I would think it's a loose wire or sensor problem, maybe O2. Have you had this setup for a while and run fine or did it just start this? What year is your bronco? TBI or EFI?

bronco

its efi with a painless harness conversion with mass air it ran good a few hundred miles then i took it for a test wheel and found this problem

Ok, so I'm going it guess was originally carb'd? This problem may have been there every since you did the conversion also? What codes does it show?

Are you running a pressure controlled fuel regulator or any sort of vacuum line on the regulator ? (I'm not familiar with ford stuff)

Was it carbed? Or is a carb. cam still in the motor ?

bronco

originaly speed density fi not carb just wanted to upgrade to mass air due too big stroker motor yes adjustible fuel regulator with vac line hooked up steed 41psi at all times mecanical gage also i dont trust elec gages

well, black smoke means too much fuel. start looking at the fuel delivery componants. check for the injectors leaking....as it stands up it may be pouring fuel into the engine.

also...what ecu are you using? i think the mass air takes different programming, i could be thinking of somehing else, been along time since ive looked at mass air swaps.

im pretty sure thats why i didnt do it....the mass air system on ford doesnt have the self adjustability to make a good off road set up. like i said....i could be wrong. just offering a direction to look in.

i think i had it wrong, speed density is less self tuning that MAF. but...ecu still needs proper programming, or piggyback chip.

yea running a 93 mustang ecu that maches hraness injectors and meter just wondering if any one else had used that harness and had problems

Ok, so now that we know the basics, it's probably something to do with not being able to burn the fuel. That means ignition. Do it do it when going down hill also, or just up?
