I'm trying to sell a dumptruck for my mom. My dad bought it and she has the title but I'm wanting to know what engine, trans and anything else I can get from the VIN so I can advertise it. I know it runs and dumps like it should but I just want to make sure all the info is there.

Well post pics and VIN! Or at least make and model of the truck so we can point you in the right direction. Most dumps will have brand and model/rating info on or near the hydraulic mechanism.

Ok fine then.

I’m gonna go with 1989 Chevrolet for starters...

You might could use a VIN decoder. That should get you at least what the engine is. there should be tags in either the glove compartment, engine bay, or door jam that will tell you the type trans the vehicle has.

Call your local Chevy dealer parts department. They should be able to decide the vin if an online decoder won't work. Not sure if the online ones cover heavy duty trucks

For a Chebby you need to look at the RPO Code sticker, Usually under the hood, near or on the firewall..

Then you need a Magic Decoder Ring for it...

Here's one!

Thanks for the info so far. I figured it was the 366 but wasn't sure. The trans is a two speed variety if that matters (little red selector switch on the stick shift).

That’s a super rare option since it should have a two speed REAR AXLE.

Didn't know it was rare. We had it on the other dump truck we owned. I thought it just came standard.

Its not.I was being a smart ass.Ive never saw a truck that size w a hi/lo trans in it,but I suppose its possible. Most likely its a straight 5 speed(probably clark/eaton) w a two speed rear axle. The trans should have a tag on the side of it w a model #,probably on the ds near the top.

Yep, this is the most likely scenario.
