My wife is looking for a new DD, and she is leaning towards a used Volvo XC90. Does anyone have one of these? Pros? Cons? Engine options are a 2.5 with a turbo, a 3.2 or 3.5 V6, or a 4.4 V8. Any advice on which one is most reliable?

We have one and love it.

we have the 3.2 V6.

If I recall correctly, there is a I-5 that is available in the older ones but I can't remember exactly. Ours is a 2007 and I think they discontinued the I-5 in the 2006 year.

I'm not sure what engine is the most reliable. We have about 33K miles on ours and haven't had any issues out of it at all.

What year are you looking at?

Yeah, I think the I-5 is the 2.5 with the turbo.

I am open to all years, because I really don't know any differences between them. We are trying to keep miles under 50k, so that might limit us more than anything else.

Anyone know years/options to avoid?

I've got an 06 xc90 and we love it. It's got just over 50k. Inline 5 turbo and she will scoot! The t6's were the ones with tranny issues.

I haven't heard any bad things about any of them.

The only issue we are having is the shocks on the rear hatch are getting weak when its cold out. Its under warranty so it'll get fixed once we take it in for service

Ive rode in one and it was fine....other than the asshole idiot driver

That is no prob, the shocks on the ZJ rear hatch have never worked, just used a 2x4

LOL

The factory pirelli tires wear out really fast. If they are the original tires on the car, they normally just last maybe 20K miles at most

The only negative I have with the car is that when I floor it to pass is that the throttle seems a little non-responsive or sluggish at first. For normal driving its fine, I only notice it when really getting on it.

It does have good power. Enough out of a V6 to spin all 4 tires :D

Thats true about the stock tires. I've got some Michelins on mine and they seem to be holding up much better.

I've also noticed the throttle response when really getting on it but on mine it just feels like turbo lag.

Talked to a mechanic today and he was trying to talk me out of the XC90. His reason was based on upkeep, and how they are not known for reliability and end up in the shop a lot. Anyone experience this?
