all but 2 inches from assembled, I realized my '96 Vortec 4.3L will not mate to the standard Chevy Bellhousing on the Sm465.

The tranny-to motor bolts on the '96 Vortec (auto equipped stock S-10 Blazer) went from behind the tranny and threaded into the block (and oil pan); on the '79 SM465 equipped K20, they went the other way.

BFD right?...well what do you all do? Does the hydraulic bellhousing from later model SM465 trucks mount the same way my '96 does?

There doesn't seem like a sh!t-ton of material on that bell to be milling a flat for the bolt-head. Please help!!

button head cap-screws.

I think something's funny cause it's a Vortec, not a sb (the oil pan is an integral part of the motor-to-tranny mate).

I'll hafta drop the tranny down outta the way tonight, and see if I can just mate the bell, but I don't think I've got the right bell

Every chevy motor I have ever seen bb, sb, 4.3, mounts the same, the bolts go through the trans and into the block. Don't sweat the bolts on the pan, just use the 6 bolts on the block.

Being a vortec 4.3 makes no diffenerence on the block-at least as far as how the trans mounts.

hmmm, there's some interesting logic, but I like your suggestion.

I'll be at it again tonight, and I'll bring the camera with me in case I turn out to be right.
