Well this weekend instead of fighting the crowd at uwharrie, I worked on wiring two 8 inch 260w wakeboard tower speakers to my buggy. I decided to omit the headunit so my plan was as follows.
MP3 from my iPhone to the input ports of my amp via a 3.5mm to RCA cable. Then I ran a 6 gauge lead from my positive battery terminal to the + terminal of the amp ( about 2 feet of wire), and a longer 6 gauge lead from the ground terminal of the amp to a fresh unpainted ground on the frame of the truck. I then ran a length of 12/2 speaker wire to the respective +\- terminals of the wakeboard tower speakers.
I know the system needs a fuse, but I will add one as soon as I am sure this system is going to work. As well as a switch on the positive lead from the battery.
I tried a hundred different configurations and still can't get audio from speakers. I know the rca cable is good. I know the speakers are good. I know the fuses in the amp are good. The battery leads I used are brand new. The cooper wire is a good bit thicker than the fine stranded audio wire I have seen used before. I have tried the same setup with two different amps. Both are a few years old.
Any suggestions are really appreciated. I just know I am missing something.
