Got some mountain property that passed overgrown a decade ago. Was going to try and rent/buy a used wall behind brush cutter. Anyone used one or know where one is for sale? How are they? I know some of the stuff is too large and I will have to chainsaw

I've used the DR walk behind they are good for cleaning up trails but a decade overgrown, it's probably going to be useless. Find someone with a bush hog or decent skid steer brush cutter
Might even need a forestry mulcher.

Or a bulldozer.

Or some dynamite!

How steep is the property and how much are you looking to cut?

Someone on here was gonna make one out of a pushmower and a saw blade, what ever happened with that?

Recently took on a similar project. Terrain will determine a lot about what equipment to recommend, but 3-4yo overgrown pasture was handled by a flail mower and a LOT of patience. Bush hog took care of a lot of what it left behind but I had to be careful of what rocks were hidden in the brush, however I could reclaim a few more acres with about 2 weekends of time with a forestry mulcher.

Older Gravely Model L8 or C8, or any of the 10hp or 12hp Kohler powered machines (Comm12, 546, 566, etc) with dual wheels and the 30" brush deck will do a lot. Will also kill you quickly as those machines have no safety kill switches on them. I would look for electric start models as well if you are not familiar with them.
I use a couple of Model L8 machines around my property where I can't get my tractor and bush hog. They will take down 1-2" saplings if you can get them under the deck... The pull start Model L machines will kick your butt if you don't have the carb and magneto tuned just right.
They are beasts of machines and will wear you out if you let them.

I have a Billy Goat walk behind I would sell if interested. Three forward speeds with reverse.

I’ve never ran a walk behind rotary cutter but my tractor experience is enough to say I don’t want none-o-dat.
