Finally got a trailer to take my jeep out for a test run so we're heading to Lake Houser ATV park this Saturday, 9-14-19 and just seeing if anyone wants to come ride.
If you're within an hour or 2 drive, I'm pretty sure you would enjoy it. It's not the "flats" from what little we've seen of it, but there's def PLENTY to play on just the little 20% of the park we saw.
We have my ZJ(tons, 40s,etc), LJ on tons/40s,etc, LJ on 35s, and prob a zj on 31s coming with our little group. Anyone welcome to come hang out and ride.
(No drinking or drugs or vulgar language in our group please if you do come, thank you).
We plan to arrive around 9 when they open and stay till around 4pm.

This is where I cut my teeth wheeling. There is not much to crawl on, mostly mud. I would highly advise to about any mud holes as they have been wollered out pretty bad. There is some good history in that area if that is something you are interested in. Almost unmarked civil war grave. I’ll see if I can dig up some info.

yeah we were out there once already with my buddies LJ on 40s just to ride around. We spoke to many and got "warning" on mud holes lol. We stayed away from all that. I'm not sure when the last time you went but from what little we saw, there's a lot of potential in just one area of the woods we were in...probably 4 good trails that are very "buggy" worthy but can tell nobody's ever been on them so I guess I'll be the first to test em out.
Then above one of them, is what I call a trail I saw for "the crazy buggy guys" LOL, I'm nowhere near as ballsy as a lot of other people but I'll get a picture of it when we're there. Heck the powerline had a nasty trail on it that would put a challenge to a lot of the LS buggies. (I know I won't make it with my gearing and not enough hp, it's got a hella ledge half way up and it's steep)
It's def better than going to uwharrie I can promise that.

I’ve spent many hours out there exploring not on the trails with @DAWGTOY. The Steel Bridge Road used to be a ferry in civil war times. One of the main trails used to be a main road. There are a couple OLD house foundations. That area actually used to be a town and had a post office in the 1800s. Stuff there dates back to the revolutionary war.

dang that's pretty cool to know. What part of the park are you referring to? We only went straigtht down the powerlines to the small creek, turned into the woods there and followed that back up to main entrance while playing around on little side stuff but never went on any of the hundreds of trails we saw lol (scared to get lost until we go and camp all weekend).

My maps of the area are lost in photobucket. I’ll see if I can dig them up. They are at least a decade old though.
yeah I wish he had maps of it. The local ATV guys said it's easy to get lost if you're new so we stayed close to main trails until we go and stay a whole weekend to venture out. Hope to find a local person with a truck/jeep that knows some good stuff and easy ways to get there. I'm not worried about my rig and body damage on narrow stuff but my buddies LJ on 40s, that's a different story lol (his jeep is too nice for "narrow" trails lol). we shall see

The grave of F.C. Sarratt was lost. Me and @DAWGTOY ”found” it and I did the genealogy digging. Found the next of kin and notified them of where the grave is.
WOW, dude that's freaking cool. (like famous cool lol)

Shitty part is that it is right on a trail. 4wheelers had been running right over it. The logs and pile of rocks is what I put there to keep people from riding over the grave. The headstone used to be pretty legible. One time when we went, the stone was gone. I placed a $100 reward for the return of the stone. We have never seen it again. I have GPS coordinates of the location buried in photobucket. I could get there again with my eyes closed though. Every time I went to houser, I visited his grave. Gone, but not forgotten to me and @DAWGTOY.

Now you have me fired back up on this. More to follow, I will get some more local Civil War guys involved.
Coolness!! Pretty awesome thing you stumbled upon and very noble of how you have handled and taken responsibility/ownership on finding out the family and markings and such.

Yes take lots of pictures of the trails you see with potential.

Guess I'll appoint someone as camera roll lol
