WANTING TO BUILD MY 86 RUNNER

Well, it woule be helpful if you could describe how big/serious you want to go.
"4Crawler" is probably the best known guru for cheap or free upgrades

Cheapest route = make a body lift (*use quality parts please*), weld the differentials, sawzall the fenders, can do all this for practically nothing, get soem used 35s and go.
better route = spend $$ and do it the right way

Do you just want a few inches/occasional offroading, or sole trailer beater?

figured i want to go at least 5 inch on 35 but would like to know how hard it would be to go with 1 ton

Well, on an IFS rig (which yours is) the terms "cheap" and "at least 5 inch lift" are not compatible.

You're looking at buying a "bracket" style lift for big $$$ (unless you can find one used), that will get you 4", then on top of that you'll have to either do a body lift or balljoint spacers for the rest.

Or you could do a complete solid axle swap, but again that costs $$$ unless you have a donor vehicle to pull everything off of AND can do all teh fabwork yourself.

Only other option would be like 3" body lift + 1.5" balljoint spacers + crank torsion bars, that'd net you 5" for about $125 (for the front anyway) but not ideal setup by any means.

IMO, get a sawzall and trim the fenders (free), then you don't need so much lift for those 35s, esp if you get skinny ones.
