I picked up the 90 Suburban 3/4 off craigslist for a deal with "engine issues" for a deal. Got the 350 up and going and knocked around in it for a while until I found a Dodge donor truck. Pulled the Cummins & freshened it up a little. Normal fuel modifications, all new gaskets etc. For a trans I went with a 1st gen A518/618 OD, billet internals, low stall converter, and a NP241 case. As of now I'm waiting on the driveshafts to be modified and a few other goodies to come in.

It is an OD trans, Its basically a non-lock up version of the 47rh in the 94-96 CTD Rams. I'm going to run them for a while. I've had my eye out for a FF14B and a d60 for the front. They are a decent chunk of change. I hope to get it up and going before winter and see how it holds up!

Building my dream burban. Had a 3/4 ton 4x4 silverado just like that but had to let it go because of the awful mpg and no overdrive with the th400 :(

Hopefully by the time I have money for a project like this there will still be some suburbans that haven't gone to the crushers yet.

It was originally a TBI350/TH400 with 4:10s so I can feel your pain. If I keep it around 50-55 it wasn't horrible, anything over that you couldn't keep fuel in it. I think it'll go a little better with the 12v and OD tranny!

A diesel is the exact answer you are right. I didn't care that I couldn't go faster then 65. It was just the throttle was open so much just to cruise at that speed. A nv4550 swap would have been a nice thing to have back then. I am looking forward to seeing this on the road. Chevy made some damn tough trucks then.

I kinda wish I had 4.10s now....but, oh well, the 4.56s aren't going anywhere. I think the best I've ever gotten out of my truck since the swap was 22mpg and I usually average 18.5. I did a bunch of little (and a few more expensive :D ) things to get some power and mileage out of mine too.

I heard that, I actually have an NV4500 I was going to run but decided to go with the mild build auto/low stall converter. I'm trying to keep it as stock appearing as possible. Didn't want to convert columns/cluster/pedals etc. I've been searching for an original "diesel only" fuel guage and a dual battery tray if you know a line?

Shouldn't be too hard to find....worse case, buy new stuff from LMC truck! Chances are, the battery trays would be rusted out anyway.
