My M8000 lost its brake last year. I just now took it apart and the brake assembly was in pieces. Looks like the snap ring popped off. Maybe the indention where it sits has rounded out a bit or may just need a new snap ring but the snap ring is loose in the slot. So I look up the parts and it comes as a whole. I've never had it apart so I'm flying blind here. So I take it that I have to slide this assembly back in and the winch drum is the actual brake drum and that's what holds the three pieces of brake material to the drum. Do I have to preload the spring and if so how much?
Since it's already come apart once, should I just order the new part or rebuild this one?
heres the link.
Thanks

BTW this winch is 15 years old.
