I'm thinking of buying the warn vr 8000 for my tj on 35s. I am looking at this one bc I want a quality winch but at a good price. Does anyone have an opinion/experience with this winch? Also that should be enough winch right?

Chip "had" a VR10000
From the get go, it just did not work right. Seemed to pull way top much battery.
IT was always difficult to free spool, then it got to where it wouldn't at all.
Took it apart and found the brake was engaged. Had worn the drum pretty bad.
Fed up with it, sold it, bought a SmittyBuilt

To answer your question, yes a 8K winch should be enough.

IMO the VR was Warn's answer to combat all the other "cheap" winches.
I may have just got a lemon, don't know. But in my experience, the worst winch I ever had.

Smitty built 8k on both our jeeps!

Thanks for the info. I was also looking at the smittybilt so I think I'll just get that one on the way.

Cool. I'll be in Raleigh Saturday. Hopefully they will have one in stock and I can pick it up.

I have the vr8000. I used it 4 times and it totally locked up on me. I got it replaced for free by warn. Have one pull on the new one. I hope it will last longer.

My brother has had his VR8000 over a year now... has been used atleast 20 times without fail or any issues. Been a great winch, would highly recommend it.

If I was to get a Warn, it would probably be an M series, in my case, and M12000. Hard to beat for what I need. They have a lot of other great winches though. I actually have a great deal lined up on one, it's just not the right time to buy it unfortunately!

I wouldn't be afraid to buy a used one. I've got a 20+ year old 8274. Works like a champ on the rare occasion I spool out the cable.
