Ok so the wife and I picked up a 2014 vw jetta tdi back in july. We are wanting to put a catback system on it for the time being until the warranty is up and we can ditch the dpf etc.

First question is this.......will it void the warranty to have a catback done? She asked at the 5000mile service and got the answer of "it shouldnt". I need a little more firm answer than that when a warranty on a brand new car is at stake.

second question.....anyone have exhaust on their tdi? Kind of scared to put a system on there without hearing one. I dont want to wind up with something that drones to bad or sounds like some shitty riceburner on steroids.

most of the catback systems ive found are around 3-400 bucks.

did i mentiom that 47mpg is freakin awesome!!!!!

If you're buying a complete system from a manufacturer (Banks, Xtreme Diesel) then it should state whether or not it will void the warranty. I dont see where a cat-back system would cause warranty issues but dealers will do/say about anything to get out of having to fix something for nothing....

A 2014 jetta doesn't have dpf. I sell vws for a living. The pass at has had dpf sine it's redesign in 2012 and the jetta, golf, and beetle got a new tri motor and dpf starting the 2015 model year.

Adding a cat back will add exhaust after the emissions equipment and will not affect warranty other than nvh issues caused by or related to the exhaust system.

And looking at the options for aftermarket exhaust my opinion is that your wasting your money. You could get an aftermarket tune with much more substantial and noticeable performance and economy changes for about the same price as an exhaust that deletes the muffler and makes a nicebevery day car sound like something its not.

Dont want to delete the muffler completly. Would like to hear something, if it would sound somewhat decent thats why i was asking. I figured it wouldnt void warranty but just wanted to get a couple opinions considering the service guys sure as hell dont know. To each his own, the wife wants exhaust so why stop her as long as it sounds good. Yes i know a tune will do way more for the car. But will also void warranties. When that route does happen what is suggested?

"The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act makes it illegal for companies to void your warranty or deny coverage under the warranty simply because you used an aftermarket or recycled part. Still, if it turns out that the aftermarket or recycled part was itself defective or wasn't installed correctly, and it causes damage to another part that is covered under the warranty, the manufacturer or dealer has the right to deny coverage for that part and charge you for any repairs. The FTC says the manufacturer or dealer must show that the aftermarket or recycled part caused the need for repairs before denying warranty coverage."

It will not void your whole warranty, but the dealership with most likely try to blame any failure they can on the exhaust. But say a brake/suspension part fails, then they can't really say the exhaust caused it.

Every other car that runs through our service bays is tuned... Unless you have catastrophic engine or transmission failure no tech or service writer is going to care one bit what caused the problem. They want to get paid either not have you go running to the nearest non dealership shop. My brother has a tuned 2006 tdi and has never had an issue with the dsg trans or motor, and I have had numerous repeat buyer's that don't own their car more than a week before having it tuned.
