So Mega-corporation screws you over and doesn't cover your repair. What are you going to do, sue them? Angrily write the state attorney general? I love a good fight, but it seems like this is a fight that'll cost you more in the end than the device is worth.

Wonder if this argument could be made about vehicle computers? Most manufacturers these days will void your warranty if you have flashed your ECM and then come in for warranty work after. I could see the same argument in that you have the right to use other "repair" services.

but unfortunately, the mfgr sees it instead as viation of IP & DMCA & probably some other law too.

I'd be real interested in this as it relates to the ongoing lawsuit with John Deere et Al regarding modifying and servicing tractors.

If you changed it to a different programming then I believe this falls under "modification", not just repair.

Yes, but the dealer doesnt always look to see what the programming is, they mostly look to see if the computer has been flashed. If so, they can and will deny warranty work, esp if it is for Powertrain. Granted, they are typically correct that the computer was flashed with mods to create more power, but they do not know that for certain, unless the owner wasnt smart enough to flash it back to stock first.
