Has anybody done one? I just signed up for the one in Huntersville for June 1st. Never done one before. I'm 6-2, 225lbs and will be 2months shy of turning 48. I wouldn't say I'm in very bad shape but definitely have room for lots of improvement! Any suggestions?

i havent dont one but here is the advice ive gotten on getting ready for one.

can you run three miles? If yes, read no further.

can you run for a few minutes and wait in line while the mudpit/tire flip/wall climb/etc.. is cleared? and then run another few minutes?

if your answer is yes to either, then you should be alright

I did the one in Huntersville two years ago i think. It was petty rough, harder than i thought it would be. The obstacles are harder than I thought and they wear you out. I would get to a point you can run 3 consecutive miles in less than 40 min. You'll be standing and waiting at all the obstacles unless you can run the distance in less than 20 min and stay ahead of the pack. I did it in 43 min i think. But me and a buddy were goofing around and having fun, and had to much to drink before hand. I think some guy did it in 19 min that day.

I'm shooting for staying ahead of the pack. Can't run 3 miles yet without stopping but I have a little over 8 wks to change that. I figure if I stay ahead of the ones that are doing it for fun then I'll be good. In HS i used to do the mile in a little over 4 1/2min. Now it takes me 15min.

I did the Warrior Dash in Huntersville last year. It was a lot of fun. I think I did it in about 30 min. headed to the WWC Sunday for the Spartan Race which is a lot more difficult. I am planning to do the WD with my buddy in NY in July and will probably hit the Huntersville one as well.

Good Luck!

You get a beer and a very cold hose down. I did it last year. It wasn't bad. I'm 6'1 and 250.

For me it's the challenge and goal to get in shape again. First of the week it took me an hour to do a 4mi run/ walk on treadmill. Thursday I was able to shave 8min off that. At some point I'll start running outside so I can hit some uneven trails. Anyone use a pedometer?

I use my smart phone that has a work out tracker.

a group of us did it 2 years ago as well. There are the serious ones and there are people walking it, drinking beer. you sound like you're on the right track.
Try couch to 5K on the internet......

good luck!!

Encouraging to see this; as others said you will be fine.

I am doing the Tough Mudder this year in November with a good friend. After doing some research, I realized it is going to be harder than I thought. I've had 2 shoulder surgeries and I will probably change my approach to some of the obstacles after watching videos of past events. It's not the distance, but the cardio and stamina to carry yourself through the obstacles at a constant pace that separates you from "the beer drinkers".

Best thing to do is sprint a good 50 yards while you do your 3 mile run. Then just jog, for about a half mile, then sprint, jog, sprint. And so on. Running uphills does miracles for your run time. I've been trying to shave my run time down for the 3 mile run that i have to do for the stupid pft. I was never a runner. Hopefully this time it'll be good.

The Warrior Dash is a super fun time. Lots of good people out there. Ill be there myself. I've done a few now and the Spartan Run. I'd like to try Tough Mudder and the Zombie Run in ATL next. Basically just go out and give it all you got, don't quit and you'll surprise yourself every time.

These things are basically just for fun, so don't stress over it. You could do this event tomorrow, the obstacles allow you to catch your breath and many of the obstacles will have a line to wait in. I did the Marine Corp mud run and I think it was a 4 miler, but the most you ever ran was maybe a half mile before stopping for an obstacle (they had 28 of them in 4 miles).

The feeling of accomplishment is pretty cool, especially if you are with a team. Good luck!

I want to do this for the fun of it but also want to do it as a challenge to see where I place in my age group. I want to get ahead of the ones just doing it for fun so I don't have to wait at the obstacles.
