This morning someone stole an antique round Coca Cola sign off my father-in-laws antique gas station on Hwy 751 near Jordan Lake in Apex.
I know a lot of people travel up 751 from Hwy 64 mornings on their way to work. (Rich, Ridgerunner, Rob...) In case folks don't know, my place has the white antique ex-gas station in front of the big old white farmhouse, across the street from Apex Nursery, about 3 miles north of Hwy 64.
Did anyone see a vehicle parked in front of the gas station the morning of 07/12? If so, please give me a description.
I know this happened between 6:20 and 7:30 AM. The person parked beside 751 in front of the building, jumped the fence, ripped the sign off the wall, and then had a HUGE amount of wheelspin trying to get out of the yard - they had parked in fresh mud left by recent underground cable work.
From the ruts, I think it was a front-wheel-drive car - it didn't throw mud like a rear-wheel-drive vehicle would have. And I'm pretty sure it was a 4-cyl - I heard the engine screaming when I had just gotten out of the shower. A lot of people accelerate hard past our house, but I heard the engine for several seconds, and thought, "man, it sounds like that car's not moving." Now I wish I would have ran to the window.
I know it's a long shot - likely I will never find out who did this. But I would love to personally "discuss" this with whoever did it. Or just call the cops if I can get any leads at all.
Thanks!
Richard
