Well, I pick this gem up the other day, and now waiting on a free tow to my house. I could probably be driven but I don't want to risk it before I dig into it. I'm new to FSJ's and not that knowledgeable about the years and makes. There is some cosmedic rust but I wasn't able to see any major locations. The price of the truck was too low to get too picky. Ran 6 months ago when parked.

It has 3" lift springs already on it.
(later learned its stock springs with only cut wells)

This will be a slow moving project.

Got it running this past weekend, needed a fuel pump. This weekend is the carb rebuild.

Well, I forgot about this thread and I need to at least post a picture.

I've got it running well, well enough I drive it to work and take it on the beach almost daily. Not to many mechanical changes other than fixing the ignition system to get to running smooth and adding needed gauges. There is a full York air system installed, always wanted one and it was way too easy on this, already had freshly rebuild york before I bought this.

I started with the exterior as it needed some work just to stop/slow the rust problem. Over all it wasn't too bad.

Next will be more engine work and the interior.

Right now its parked waiting for a new water pump that went out yesterday, I was on here doing some research of the High flow or stock pumps. Pretty sure it’s just a gasket, but I'm sure it needs a pump.

Not the newest picture, buts its one I have here.

I keep forgetting about this thread, and need to keep it updated with info and photos.

I've had time to do a bit more on the exterior, but to be able to finish it I am waiting on the spring warm air, with out rain.

Sense the last post I have painted the roof cream, the other pic shows it in primer gray. The wheels are actually new as of last week, Pro Comp sells white wagons with out the "Fruit of the Loom" pin stripes.

I'm going for that Retro look.

I had to park it through Dec. and Jan. to have time to get to the water pump that was leaking from the weep hole on the bottom. Planned on a doing a little more maintenance while I was in there. Other than the bolts breaking off in the timing cover everything went well. Oh and I was lucky, I was able to get all five out with out tapping. :)

I also had some new rubber valve cover gaskets waiting to go in. I figured why not give it some color while I was in there. Make it look all fancy.

Looks good. If gas wasn't so dang high I'd be driving a GW to work every day.
Check out IFSJA for some simple ignition upgrades that will benefit it.

I see you took the grill off and swapped on a rhino grill, looks good. IFSJA is the place to go to for FSJ's, I've got a build thread over there in dire need of an update(I just haven't done anything this year yet on my '83)

I'm over at IFSJA alot, I just like to keep it local also. Its more than likely I'll never see those people ever. I have been wanting to get out to Uwharrie some day, I have a bit more to do, like get a trailer and truck big enough to pull it.

Another short update.

Managed to find some old 33x14.50 Mickey HP's, they have some dry rot, so they will only be temporary until I can find some wide 33's.

Did you buy it from the couple that runs a cleaning service in Nags Head? They bought from me several years ago with plans of going big lift and 35s. Looks like they never got around to it, those look like the same 31s it left here on. Glad to see someone breathing new life into it.

The town beaches are open now and I finally got the SOA on the beach. The sway bars are reattached and a manual in cab throttle cable was added to keep the RPMs up when using the air compressor.
