I found this on the state surplus site, it was going for $3,400 with an hour to go, then it went crazy. It was listed under the golf cart section (perhaps because it has no title?).

I haven't watched the gov liquidation sites much.....so I am curious if this was a good deal or not?

In my opinion no you didn’t miss anything but an antiquated pile. 3spd trans tops out at 55mph and you feel like you’re skimming the earths atmosphere. And, while attempting that speed you will hear NOTHING but your future medical bills for hearing aids ca-chinging. The windshields and well, everything else leaks so drive in the sunshine or wear full rain gear. Not the factory tires. No rear bumper. The winch may be there but the controller probably isn’t and they are a bitch to track down (if the winch even works) it’s a 6.2 am general naturally aspirated diesel engine cranking out like 165 hp. (DOG!). Seats are the old spring/cushion style (back pain).
Anyway. I wouldn’t drive it if someone paid me. Oh wait, Uncle Sam does Lol.

That's about going rate for one in unknown condition. Parts aren't all that cheap and there could be a lot wrong with it. None of them come with "real" titles, that's a whole nother hassle.

Not a good deal. If it already had a on-road title that would be about what it would bring if it was running/driving. I have a guy coming to buy a m1043a2 from me. It is a slantback, I pulled the motor/trans because it was locked up. He is getting the hmmwv, 4 good seats, 4 MTR's, and a turbo drivetrain for $15k from me. He will be able to get a street legal title and will have a turbo/overdrive slantback when he is done putting it back together for a pretty decent price.

I am done with HMMWV's, not really worth my time to mess with them honestly, market is flooded and everyone wants a 'cheap' one, and the 'cheap' ones suck. Heck, even with the turbo/overdrive they are still slow and loud. A M1078 LMTV rides/drives better and is quieter.
