Water Pump Dying?

Walked outside this morning to find a fairly large puddle of coolant under the WJ (20"x20"). I checked the coolant reserve tank and it still showed above the full line. Then I looked up at the bottom of the engine and it found that it was dripping from the lowest point on the front of the engine (bottom pulley on the fan belt series). I'm guessing this is the water pump...

A little background, I just drained and refilled the coolant last weekend b/c I was getting a low coolant message in the VIC. Yesterday I drove the Jeep about 275 miles (hwy). This was the first long/hard drive since swapping the coolant. Is it possible that the system was just purging some excess coolant? Any other signs that I should look for to tell if the water pump is going bad?

Thanks for any help.

Hmm...I could hear a very quiet sound (don't know if I'd call it a squeak or something else) this morning when I popped the hood. It was intermittent, like once every 4 or 5 seconds.

BTW, its a 2000 WJ 4.0L with 140,XXX miles

this combined with your first post, id say its the water pump.

I just had a similar problem... I got a jeep, and it has 100k miles on it... so I changed the coolant in it tonight... and it started leaking pretty bad... I think the previous owner put stopleak in it to keep the waterpump from weeping..

I hope it isnt a bigger problem tho... I havent heard any squeaking at all from my waterpump tho..

your water pump has a weep hole in the center of it and if you have fluid draining from this hole than it is bad but the only way you can get to it is to take the pull off from in front of it so you might as well change it while your in there
