Wear a seat belt

It's crazy - the amount of people who believe a seatbelt 'hurts' their chances. I'm sure a few crash scene pics of the effects of being ejected would help that cause.
Ive seen quite a few accidents where the driver was ejected and was able to walk away or at least in better shape than they would of been if in the vehicle

That's funny. I go to wrecks everyday and have never unbuckled a dead man. Not saying it doesn't happen but if you roll over you are much safer in the vehicle instead of being thrown out. I've also never worked an ejection wreck where there wasn't serious injury, usually death.( op you are lucky. Get better soon) Like I said anything can happen, but there is a better chance your injury will be worse if you aren't wearing it.

Back in high school four of my friends were in an S-10 Blazer that got in a pretty bad t-bone wreck that ended with them smashed into a telephone pole after impact. Only one of them was wearing a seatbelt and he got hurt the worst because the other three smashed into him during the colision.
When people who don't know me well get in the car with me, I tell them to "please fasten your safety harnesses". Then if they ask why, I explain that I don't really care if they fly out, but I don't want to be injured by their body flailing around in the cab of my vehicle and injuring me while I'm securely fastened to my seat. That tends to shut them up pretty quick.

Yes, A nice looking XJ, & seats looking good too! Glad you made it! When I got my license, I started wearing my lap belt, Not for the crash, but to hold me in the seat, as I power-slid my Galaxies through curves!
There was a somewhat famous curve on the way to High School,& back. Some of us "Teenagers", used to see how fast we could take it. I knew if not wearing the belt, you were trying to hold yourself on those old bench seats, by the steering wheel. I was so smart [assed], with my power-steering, I could do a right hander, at 60mph, with 1 hand! Good thing my Daddy didn't know. I wouldn't have had an ASS, to sit on!

Glad you are still alive man! Just have to ask if you texting? I have aways worn my seat belt. Not sure why either? I was in a 2 1/2 time rollover at highway speed when I was 18 in my cj5 and walked away with not even a scratch. ( full cage helped ) which reinforced this. Have preached this to all my kids as well. They are seat belt addicts and it also saved my oldest daughters life when she rolled her Xj end over end and too walked unhurt as well. NEVER drive without one! You are hear for a reason, no need to take a second chance.

Glad you made it. Hope you heal up quick.

OP, glad you made it out as well as you did.

I have been in several wrecks, been t-boned on both sides, hit head on, rolled twice and rear ended twice. Every time a seat belt has helped me.

I am not going to say there has never been a wreck where not wearing a seatbelt helped someone, but after being in law enforcement for fourteen years and currently going through the process of becoming a traffic crash reconstructionist, I can honestly say that its very rare for not wearing a seatbelt to help you. I can also honestly say that every fatality I ever worked except for one, was someone either ejected from the vehicle or on a motorcycle. The only one wearing a seatbelt had pulled out in front of a tractor trailer.

Dang man, great your going to heal! My mom survived an ejection in a old muscle car my dad owned, he was in Nam. I however punched a windshield out with my face in a rear end collision, no belt. I also rolled a Ranger end over and had a belt on. In another wreck I smashed a radio in a 70's four door sled from the back seat. I've totaled two Superhawks at ridiculous speed, and crashed all sorts of ways on dirt bikes with varying results. Been a passenger in two other rear end smashups. I ran over the top of a Honda with a Powerstroke and spun 360 through an intersection and bounced off two other cars. This is just a handful of why I ache in the mornings. Seat belts save lives sure thing but I just boil it down to the Good Lord wasn't ready to call me home yet.

You had an angel with you on this day.

Hope your real good at math then Dylan. Most of it is doing long algebra to figure out speeds after you are done at the scene.

I think Dylan actually bought my daughters Xj. There was not a straight PC of sheet metal on the whole Jeep, roof, tailgate, all four doors, both fenders, hood, grill. They do provide awesome driver protection for those who stay intact! Again, you are a very lucky man !

I am never, ever getting in a car with you, sounds like you'd got a curse lol.

BTW when I'm driving, the car dosn't go out of park until everybody is buckled. No exceptions. I have had some awkward, irritated moments with friends and passengers but that is flat out how it is. My car, my rules. You belt up or take another ride.

RatLabGuy, I used to get that a lot. Most of those wrecks were in my teens and early twenties. Some were my fault some weren't, but either way I'm a lot more careful now. Oh yeah, one was rolling the $30.00 xj on the trail!

Nah I was just driving, no excuse really. I just fucked up I guess.
I feel like trac bar popped right before I lost it but from pictures it looks in tact. I'll be picking jeep up in next few days n find out I'd it was mechanical or just me.

How many of you do not wear a belt on a regular basis? To me that just puts you in the Darwin candidate list. I feel awkward not having mine on. Feel like I'm just going to fly out of my seat while sitting still.

My buddy rear ended a tractor trailer a few years ago and he wasn't wearing his seat belt. He was ejected onto the highway. Now he barely knows my name, doesn't hardly remember anyone in our group of friends from childhood and in high school. Very sad. Ever since the. I wear my seat belt no matter what.

Which is sort of ironic really.

I bought the totaled xj that @89wrangler 's daughter wrecked.. Then I traded that for a souped up banshee 4 wheeler and 200 bucks.

Then I traded the fourwheeler and 100 bucks for the 30$xj. The one that @k5-1402 ended up rolling at URE.

Then Chris ended up buying the Banshee... Chris is the the same friend I spoke of earlier, the one who died in the Ford truck rollover.

I feel nekked without a seatbelt! I wear it on the trails. Even if I'm just going medium-core at Uwharrie. It's became such a habit to put it on, some people used to give me a hard time about it, but I've seen some rollovers on the easiest trails at the most unexpected time. Seatbelt, always. Same for anyone riding with me.
