I've lived in the same house for 13 yrs, but same area for 21 yrs. The longest we have ever lost power is about 18 hrs. I think that is because they built a shopping center with a grocery store about 1 mile away.

My biggest worry is about trees coming down. I have 2 gallons of fresh 2 smoke fuel and am ready though.

I live 1/4 mile from the substation on the main line that goes to a golf course community. The longest we've been out was 12 hrs after Helene. My parents are next door on a spur line and they were out for a week... Hoping it doesn't get that bad.
 
We were out of power at my parents house for 10 days after fran iirc, might have been longer. That was cp&l. Our business has a dedicated line off the transmission line from Wake but we still lose power occasionally. They were nice enough to set us up so we can be fed from multiple directions when one goes down. My house, not so much šŸ¤£.

Thatā€™s like our farm. It has two lines coming in since it was an old dairy. There have been times my mother in law doesnā€™t have power but we did in the toy hauler 20yds away because it was fed off a different panel in the basement. Im hoping our saving grace is that they have trimmed a ton of the right of ways around us this year to install fiber.

Our house a mile away, isnā€™t as lucky, however we are only a few hundred yards off a main distribution line.
 
Kershaw county has been updated to a winter storm warning with .5" of ice likely from Saturday afternoon to Monday morning. Good times ahead.....
 
What's crazy is in a normal snow storm. My parents and friends that live 20 minutes away in the same county same elevation can get 4" of snow and we wont get anything. I will say typically speaking when the moisture is coming from up north down hitting the tn/nc line we get decently accurate forecasts. But storms that the moisture is coming west traveling east, or moisture from the gulf is when we have had storms that aren't easy to predict what and where they are hitting. Which is what the storm looks like is going to do.
 
Meanwhile in central Fla :huggy::beer::D

I WILL have to fire up the furnace next week. I came down here to get warm damnit!

Yep. Going to be staying at work sat night so I'm leaving all of my "keep the house running " plans to the future son in law. Im obligated to be there Sunday am so that's my choice. Ill have to talk him thru my complex list of breakers that have to be on or off for it to work. Plus yoinking the meter. Plus feeding the pellet stove and its cleaning requirements. Its all very simple if you've done it before and u derstand why.

Old outside service. No true main disconnect. Yoinking the meter is my only means of isolating from the pole. Can't get pics. Headed off to work until Sunday night, assuming the roads allow me to get home even then. I backfeed thru the welder plug in the shop which backfeeds to the main. Take out meter, turn off everything 30amps or bigger and start it up. Genny has a ground rod so I've done all I can do to make it safeish and it works. Disclaimer: dont to this. You'll die. Its not safe or proper.
