I am new to the site and wanted to get some input on the webers. I put the weber on the other day "NEW" and everything seems fine except the back firing through the exhaust. I have done everything i know to do to it. I tried talking to JOSE from weber carbs direct and he said I had a hole in my exhaust, NOT !!

Is there any suggestions anybody can throw at me ??

I have a 1980 cj 5 with 258 motor 68,000 original miles.

Is it backfiring on decel, like coming down a hill? If so, that's pretty normal fora carbed engine because you can't shut off fuel flow like on a fuel injected engine.

Did you tune it up, or just bolt it on and expect it to work? Did Jose give you any setup instructions? Did you overtorque the adapter bolts and warp the baseplate creating a vacuum leak? Did anybody warn you that the Weber is a sad excuse for a replacement carb? Do you have a cracked manifold? That will create backfiring issues. Does it run well besides the backfiring? How's the fuel mileage?

what other options are out there for the jeeps as a replacement carb. I tried a ford 2150 and cant get it to run right. So the weber is the only thing I see when u google for jeep carbs ??

any help or suggestions !!

I have run a webber on my 258 for years and never been happy with the way it performed. Especially on the trail. Its great on the street, but on the trail it loads up and does any variety of other who knows what. I went back to the carter and have been happier. My fuel mileage fell off but it runs better in the woods. My next step is to rob some fuel injection from somewhere. Chevy TBI probably.
