My gas weedwacker is alwats giving me troubles.
Has anyone had experience with the lithium ion battery weed eaters?

Any i should look at mainly?
Are they garbage for heavy use?

I weed eat around a big shop, 3 car ports , 2 houses and a lonnnng fence line so its a decent amount.

buying a weed trimmer

Some good reading. Mostly about gas trimmers, but some have recommendations for battery powered options.

Ive got an FS 56 that runs well, straight shaft VS curved. had it for 4-5 years, had issues with string head, seems to have worked itself out, may just be a break in issue

Use the pre bottled fuel, you'll thank yourself later, worth the extra ( I use maybe 2qts a season)

Do WHAAAAAT?!!?
2 qts a season?

Shit that is a week for me. No exaggeration.
Damn I'm jelly.

Roundup is the best weedeater you can buy, but my neighbors frown on brown rings around my yeard

I roundup the fence line, use the string around the house, pool, deck, maybe the swing set and unfinished fence line ( post up, no fencing) and around the big green box Progress saw fit to plant next to my driveway and either end of the drainage tile under the drive.

I MIGHT use a full tank of fuel before I'm done or get tired of bending over to use the damn thing. I'm still on the first FULL quart, used the end of last years stash late May early June I think.

I have a steep ditch that I hit with it occasionally, but i have a Lawnboy that seems to run well upside down so I use that when I can.

Yah i think im goin to look at the 40 tomorrow. I saw in the thread posted to not waste time trying to mix a gallon cause it settles to much. I have a feeling ill use alot more then a gallon a season but ive always bought cheapass eaters.

Do yourself a favor and spend some coin on a GOOD weedeater. Sure, it'll set you back 250-400 bucks, but it really pays off in the long run. I've always been partial to Echos, but anything that's commercial grade should be fine. I hang mine up, full of gas every time I'm done using it and even at the end of each season. It'll fire right up the next spring, without fail. I also keep mine inside religiously and I've never replaced a single primer bulb.

Also, I highly recommend a straight shaft style. If you haven't used one or tried one out, I'm sure they'll let you when you go to look at them.

I'm with @Ron I use about a half a gallon of gas every time I bust out the weedeater. Gas doesn't have a chance to go flat around my place!

I have a SRM225 echo. They have a 5 year residential warranty. With 2 strokes it's a must to use ethanol free gas. I own a small lawn care business and I've been using my echo weedeater for 5 years and never had a single problem out of it. My step dad uses a lithium weedeater and I was actually impressed with it. He has a Worx and its quite powerful.. Like others mentioned. Get a gas weedeater if you have more than 15 minutes of trimming to do. If less than 15 minutes get a lithium.

There's so many weed eater threads I've lost count...

Bottom line, buy a good one. I went through 3 cheap paulens (sp?)in like one season when I first started landscaping like 6 years ago. Echo has best warranty for what that's worth? Battery power would not be an option for me until they get MUCH better? Nothing else, a 2 year old battery powered ANYTHING is outdated ancient. Straight shafts are just more balanced and easier to toss around on the fly if you need to do edging.

If you're not a serious user, I recommend to just get a good one from a pawn shop for half price as new (Husky / Stihl / Echo / Whatever besides Chinese). As long as you can take it off the shelf, walk outside, check gas (and oil if 4 stroke) choke it, pull a few times til it hits, then undo choke and if it fires right up... Buy it and run the shit out of it. Just be sure to run the gas out at end of every season and store out of weather. No more than 3 months with same gas.

Interesting now to me but Round-up is nothing but sodium in liquid form. The more you buy in bulk, the cheaper. I was afraid of it before I knew what it was. I'll drink it on a double dog dare and a cold beer now that I know.

Next! :flipoff2:...

Considering when you purchase a item the warranty is about 65 percent of the cost of the item. I think the warranty is very important to think about. Manufacturers charge x2 for an item where the consumer is paying for the warranty. If they have to replace the item you already paid for it. I use warranties religiously. I took my weedeater in for service at the 5 year mark. They noticed the Carb was leaking but it was running just fine. The warranty covered it.

Spend $$$ on a Stihl and run it for 15+ years without any service to it and it runs like brand new 15 years later. Same spark plug, same filter, everything.

I burn about 1 tank of fuel each time I fire it up.

37.2% of all statistics are manufactured or bullshit.

I bought a echo srm 230 from a crackhead for $40 and it has been the best weed eater I have ever bought. I run 110 octane cam2

I have the 18v Ryobi lithium and I love it!! One battery last about 30 - 45 minutes and because almost all my other 18v tools are Ryobi, I have 8 battery's. I bought the big 6 battery charger/maintainer last year so I never run out of weed eating ability.

That Stihl looks like a good machine. Very similar to what I've always had in an Echo. How's the head? Auto-feed, I'd assume? I've been very impressed with the new Echo Speed-Feed heads!

What'd it run you?

Never had anything other than a stihl to compare my FS85 to. My father has a FS80 without auto feed head and it's a pain compared to auto feed head.

Mine fires right up as expected and is powerful enough to tackle any tall ass weeds and brush withou hiccup

Like 15 years ago it was $300 or so

I'll mention that I use mine with a blade pretty often to keep bushes/trees from growing over in my yard and other places where I mow. I use a normal brush blade, but those blades with saw teeth are amazing! It basically turns my weed eater in to a 6 foot long chain saw. I've cut trees with it that I know I shouldn't have, but hey, it works.

Its an auto feed head , it works decent , needs more break in time.

I got it for 230$ with a 4 year warranty , 24 bottles of mix ,and extra string.

I got rid of a over grown fence line and was pushing it harder then i thought i should and it didnt flench.

Im enjoying the ez start on this model as well.

I never liked any of the easy start stuff, I specifically looked for one that didn't have it. Just my preference, I suppose. That sounds like a good deal though! I paid about 400 for mine with a blade kit and two blades.
