Just bought an 89 YJ and it came with nerf bars on it that I planned on taking off. I should've paid closer attention but after I drove it 4 hours home I realized they are welded to the frame. My question is can they safely be cut off the frame so that the frame isn't damaged doing so and is there anyone in the greensboro or winston area who could do the job. Thanks for any replies

Grinder with a couple of cutoff wheels and then a flap disc to smooth. Shouldn't take long at all. Won't damage the frame a bit as long as you are careful with the cutoff wheels.

I'm right out of Mocksville...bit of a drive but I can get these removed cleanly as well.

Based on the pics you should be able to hit the welds with a cutoff wheel and then use a sledgehammer to knock the nerf bar off. Clean up with a flap disc and then paint.

As everyone else has said, a grinder with a cutoff and flap after you knock em off should solve the issue. If it was welded more, Id just cut the tubes and flap it smooth leaving the plates behind.

Sawzall. Six inch blade. 15 minutes. Knock the burrs off. Nobody's going to see it unless they're changing your oil. Just be careful not to let the tip of the blade bounce on the bottom of the body.
