So looking into purchasing a welder. I've done a decent amount of mig welding for work before but its been a few years. Price wise its looking like more bang for the buck on a stick welder. Any experience with the Hobart stickmate 235 V AC Stick Welder?

I have that hobart, and have zero complaints. I like that there is infinite adjustment, unlike the old lincoln stick welders i was used to. Dont have much else to say, but i have used it a lot and it has never given me any trouble.

I know the Hobart is about $400 but you can get a Thermal Arc Fabricatr 210 (250A) Mig for about $1149 through welders express with a 5 year warranty.
Food for thought...

I have access to a millermatic 251 at work but its our bay is elevated so I can't get my jeep into it. If I need to do anything heavy I can really do it there. I would also need a few other tools to get the wifes foot out of my ass. This is just a small bday present to myself for the house.

MILLER!

I have the Hobart stick and it has served me fine. Take a bit longer to learn but definately capable to do anything you want. Except sheetmetal. I like sticks because they are simpler with less moving parts and such. Down side is you get alot of slag and it gets messy real quick on the shop floor.

just get the Lincoln buzz box, AC/DC 225/125. Its an awesome machine and is very affordable. I've had mine for years and love it. its easy and cheap to put a TIG rig on it and get both a stick and TIG welder.

Welder, new, about $500
Tig rig, new, about $125, plus $25 in hose and a flow meter for about $80 and argon bottle...
