I thought I'd try to get started back on my build some So I put a new tank of argon/carbondioxide mix on my millermatic 200 today welded about ten inches and heard a noise. Well what I call the pressure relief valve started leaking pretty bad. Took it apart and everything looked clean and in order put it back together and now it's leaking wide open. The tank had about 23-2400 psi in it. I thought they were only filled to 2000 but I maybe wrong about that but I was just wondering if that could be my problem and it may quit leaking when it gets to 2000 psi in the tank. I don't know much about regulators so if someone could shed a little light on this subject it would be appreciated.

The regulator says it's for argon and helium but I've always ran argon/co2 mix.

It is a victor regulator btw. Can you rebuild them? or should I just buy a new one or what?

Airgas can rebuild them. Sounds like maybe the diaphragm went bad, 2300 psi shouldn't be blowing any vents. Try venting some pressure off the tank and see what it does. For a welding gas reg though, you can get another for $30 or so...I wouldn't mess with rebuilding it if it's anything other than a bad vent/check valve.

If you had the pressure valve turned in and turned the gas on, it's not uncommon. At least on oxygen regs. Ebay (and charlotte airgas) has a whole pile of mig regulators for under $40, depending on how valuable your time is.

You have the flow ball type?
