After 2.5 years, I decided to take the welder out of the box this weekend (Hobart 235A stick). I was wondering how long of a drop cord I can safely use? The owners manual states that the power supply should be "maximum 87 feet long" and "minimum 12AWG". What have you guys used? I know I will be using a min of 8AWG, maybe 6 if i can find it at a good price. TIA

The length will vary depending on the gauge wire used.

If you can get the current draw of that model, or if I am not bing lazy lateer I will google it, I would be glad to post a gauge/length chart

I have a 100 foot or so cord (probably about 85 or 90 feet) for my 175 amp lincoln. i did the math when i made it and i think i cam eto the conclusion i coudl safely make the cord up to 130 feet or so using 10 gauge wire.

i'll see if i can find the calculator i used when i made my cord.....
