im looking for a 115v welder, i have looked at lincoln, hobart.140-175amp planning on running a true mig setup (gas). are these welders capable of doing the usuall work needed to build a rig, or is this a waste. only had experience with 220v migs. not going to try to make a living with it just weld on my jeep. tell me what your running so i can get some ideas.

115v will work fine, as long as you don't do a lot of welding at one time. The biggest problem you're going to run into is the duty cycle. But as long as it's "weld a bracket, position another, weld a little more" kind of stuff, you should be fine. I would highly recommend using flux for thick stuff, 1.8" or better. Flux will penetrate much better than solid, and will leave a very pretty bead if done properly. You have to chip it between starts and stops, and anywhere welds overlap, but it works great for thicker metal.
