I've never welded anything in my life, but I get the feeling I need to start. Was planning on buying a welder off CL or something, and therein lies my question.

What's a good welder to start with? Stick? It seems like it would be the easiest/cheapest way to get started.

i got a norther tools 135. its ok. built 3 bumpers with it so far (2 winch, one tire carrier). welds up to 1/4 with gas. think i spent 325-350 for mine.

stop by one day and give it a try.At least then you will know if you want to buy your own and learn some more.

Hey Jim I'll probably do just that. I need to clean up the wiring on the bronco and see about my tire swap too. I might have a problem making it out to the farm, our outage at work ends that weekend and that normally means all hands on deck. I'll let you know beforehand how it turns out.

Marvilusone, don't seem so dejected, I'm on a lazy streak and didn't search. Thanks for the link.

Not dejected, just suprised you didn't see the thread when it was up. I notice you're on here alot(like myself) and I figured you would've seen it. That's all, no biggie, just pointing you to the info.

MIG is deff the easiest, but agreed you need to try them all first before you buy one. Each type of welding has it's +/-. Also if there is a community college class around you take it. There is a lot more to welding than most people think. I took three years in HS before i bough my first MIG welder
