Welding Lessons....

Awesome man those welds dont look bad! So you are doing classes this AM today? Damn Im at work!! I set this thread up and cant even make it out! Ill make it out there one of these days!!!

I need to bring my welder up there and let you mess with it some. I tried it again last night and still get get welds that good at home. Dont understand what im doing wrong.

yeah setting up the welder is half the battle just keep messing with it till you find the sweet spot...when i was working at freightliner we had 3 phase esab machines and they were a nightmare if you didnt know how to set them up i loved watching the new welders try and figure them out lol..give me a shout i can try and help you out.

I went to the Saturday morning class, it was GREAT!!! Chris really knows his stuff! Was able to get my welds cleaned up a lot from the first to the last. Really enjoyed it and will definitely be down to go again!!! I highly recommend it!!!

Thanks for coming man. I'm glad you got something out of it. I'm game to do more classes guys, you just gotta let me know when you can do it. I'll keep it going as long as you guys show some interest.

I just saw this thread. I am DEFINITELY interested in learning some MIG knowledge from you Chris. You doing it this weekend? it's $20/hr. Did I read that the classes are 2hrs? or longer? Let me know when you're doing it next. Saturdays work best with work and my what not.

This might slow down my postal build but it's worth it. :)

Yep 20$ hr. I try to do atleast 2 hours. If I'm not too busy I can do longer. I probably can't do this Saturday. I've got a lot to do for the next few weeks... at least, but I should be a little more caught up by next weekend. I'm planning to do another next Wednesday the 1st and Saturday the 4th. but that's not set in stone. I gotta see how this week goes with shop work.

Sounds good. I'll check back. I'm usually free every saturday so it's no big rush. I'll just keep bogger welding up my jeep until then. :)

BUMP!

I'm having another MIG welding class this Saturday from 3pm till 6pm if anyone else is interested. Let me know so I can get a head count.

Hey MarsFab, time for another class!:bounce:
And thanks for fixing my steering this morning, I can tell a difference.

Ok, Im digging up an old dead thread here, but is there any chance that you are still offering these classes Chris? @MarsFab I've been thinking of taking some classes at the local CC just to help cleanup my welds but couldn't justify the cost seeing as I just do it as a hobby. A good day of constructive criticism would benefit me alot.

Sorry Im a lil late to the party....

FYI when I took MIG at Forsythe Tech it was only $78. Stick was even less IIRC.
Thje key is to take "continuing ed" classes, not the actual coursework for becoming a pro welder.

I believe the course that we took for well under $100 has skyrocketed to well over $250 in the "few short years" since we were there! They've built a brand new facility and bought a bunch of machines, though.

Holy crap.
I was always impressed that I took 3 varieties of welding classes for a sum of <$200. Some of the best money ever spent.
Shit, Mark you should start up your own classes in the basement.

If it makes you feel any better, I was shocked to find that at the local CC here the same ones are pushing $300. More expensive than the typical college credit courses.

I'm sure the lessons w/ Chris are worth every penny.

The Technical college I attend offers welding programs that I thought about looking into. If I can snag that and a machining certificate without much struggle, I'll probably do that this summer.

Yeah they are ridiculous expensive for what you get now days. Ive looked into the CE courses and I think they were in the neighborhood of 250-300. I have a mig welder and I know some basics. It would just help to have someone critique my technique and explain to me what Im doing wrong when I mess up.

Yea man I can do a class. When would you wanna do it? Week night or Saturday?

Awesome, let me coordinate with my wife and see what day would be good. A Saturday would work best for me.

.

Planning on it. Only I've got a 1500 sq. ft. shop and several MIG welders to play with these days. I'm trying to work up a 6-8 hour Saturday class for beginners. The hardest part is finding a free Saturday!

Ok guys lets get a MIG and a TIG class together.

Just to refresh everybody on what I charge. If I can get 3 guys for one 2 hour class it'll be 40 bucks each, 2 guys for 2 hours is 60 ea. and so on.

I've found that two hours is plenty time to cover a good bit and give you guys time to get some hands on welding. Also if you'd like to bring your own machine, gas and consumables we can practice on it to help with proper setup and help dial it in for you.

In the past I've had a lot of trouble with people saying they want to do this and I end up sitting at my shop for a couple hours on a Saturday wasting time cause nobody shows up. It looks like quite a few of you may be interested so if one of you could start a group message with all of us in it we can organize this and set a time. For the most part I'm available any day after 5:30 or Saturday or Sunday preferably in the morning for a couple hours. I'll do 2 separate classes one for MIG and one for TIG.
