Are there any inherent issue with welding bed frame metal?

Picking up a used set of bed frame rails and the ends have play in them. The rivets are a little loose. I figured if just weld the rails to the end, but I've heard the rails are made of cheap metal. Is it going to just weaken it and cause it to crack and bust?

I picked up some bedframe material one time not knowing any better to cut up and use the angle iron out of it. I think I was building a licence plate frame or something. It didn't weld worth a dang. I eventually got the welds to stick by using the same technique as welding cast (which I suppose is what it is). Preheat and slow cool. I didn't notice any cracks except for in my first few welds.

clothes hangar and torch and have at it!!! lol Can you not drill rivets and nut and bolt if you are worried about it?

Knock out the rivets and bolt it..

I've welded the hell out of bed frames! Many fabtastic things have been built with roadside steel. It's just angle, nothing special. Might be cheap, but should still mig weld. Or you can drill the rivet and bolt.

Like posted above, it's just hot-rolled angle steel. A thorough cleaning/grinding of any area that you want to weld will be needed, usually the surface finish is really poor and has lot of small imperfections to collect primer and paint, which will not work well for most forms of welding (except stick with the correct rods).
