I don't know if you know how to weld or if you have access to a welder but if you do here is a pretty instruction site for an 8.8. I know you doing a D44 so you have to pull your own measurments.

I am going to pick up my 8.8 tomorrow found one with 60,000 miles and 4.10 limited slip for $200 in VA. I plan to use this website todo it my self. Might save you some greenbacks.

Wish you were closer, I could get it done for you. As a note time is money and getting the stock ones off without ruining takes some patience, skill, and materials. You can't simply get a torch, grinder, or plasma to all the areas. Cut off disc and various types of grinders work well for controlled removal. Some areas still require other means (Skilled Bluewrench). For effectively removing only weld material and the angles involved plasma is my last choice. I've got all of the above at my disposal and I still believe its more effective to buy Rubi brackets or the like and go staight to install. Plus you always have the stocker to refer back to should things get interupted or your notes aren't up to spec. Your fit up will make all the differance in how profesional it looks even after all the brackets are put dead on were they belong. Good luck.

With a plasma and good angle grinder, it takes less than 30 minutes to get have a clean xj rear axle. You must be getting old. :flipoff2:

Out of curiosity though, how much would you or another pro weldor charge for something like that?

I'm in greenville and can do it for you. I'll even TIG the brackets on if you want

I just got my torch bottles filled today, so I should be good for a few axles... :)

Yeah that would be bout right for the XJ axle, reading quickly at lunch I only saw TJ. Sorry, for that. I was refering to only reusing TJ stuff on a axle to be swapped in. Lot more geometry and stuff crammed on those tubes. XJ being spring pads and shocks is pretty straight forward. So since its a TJ and he'll be needin brackets anyways. I'd price it around 3 hrs labor. That's also two axles laying in front of my "shop". Extracation of the stocker and bolting up the new unit would run more.
Is 33 old?

After using a plasma cutter to remove the stock brackets off the broken Dana 35 from my ZJ and welding them on my replacement 8.8 I would seriously recommend just getting new brackets.

It took about 20-30 minutes to remove the brackets with the plasma cutter

But then had to work like hell to fit them on the 8.8 tubes
This one was a easy one to fit.

Thanks for posting that, a picture explains it all. Plus I bet you spent considerable time cleaning all the brackets up just to reweld them, slag or "carborized" mild steel don't weld so good do it.

I did the 8.8 swap in my new to me ZJ. Which is why I recommend getting new brackets.
Welded up and painted ready to install

Granted I did not re-install the sway bar brackets, my rear sway bar was bent anyway.
